Self-Note re: Bro - nmha - info? 800-969-6642 xt 4312 9-5 m-f

Club tonight, at least for a little bit, barring call emergencies. Hopefully tomorrow with Danny, too.

Darth's Daily Tragedies.

Celine Dion as Michael Jackson. Why do I like this?

quote [ ...began as a normal traffic stop but took an ominous turn when the driver refused to get out of her SUV. It ended with a Boynton Beach Police officer hitting the 22-year-old woman twice with his Taser during her arrest. ]

disturbing video. I suspect she had a panic attack, because a taser doesn't normally cause someone to flip out like that.. it hurts, for sure, but that stops right away.

She was warned four times, but preferred to hang out on the cell phone. Look at the other videos to see how the encounter started; he actually spoke to the woman a bit before taking her license and registration. When he returned and asked her to get out of the car, it was because she was driving with a suspended license and he intended to arrest her.

Old News, but I hadn't seen the video. I used to work for the City of Boynton Beach (library), way back when.

Sunset was gorgeous last night. The rainclouds parted the sun came out, and turned the sky all sorts of beautiful warm colors before fading to purple.

Free doughnut day at Krispy Kreme. I'll stop in if one crosses my path, but won't make a special trip for one. Free ice cream, that's I'd make a plan for.

Had the exceptionally pleasant experience of meeting firpo (quite an accomplished writer and artist out of California) on my journal yesterday in my comments section. It's lovely when anonymous comment-folk pop in and say hello! Sometimes I think LJ is rather insular regarding non-lj types. I had the pleasure of seeing some of firpo's work, and I quite liked what I saw -- I may have to buy the book, too.

mzk called from New Mexico... has a UTI, and Mr. Tiggs nearly escaped on her, but aside from that, all is well. Will be in Cali by the weekend, I imagine.

Researchers from Stanford and Cornell have designed a camera sees behind objects. I remember that scene in Bladerunner when decker manipulated the photo to see one of the replicants around the corner of the apartment and I was cool but no way is that possible, well now it is."

Oh, dear. Now this is a bit of ugly advertising for LJ:

Create-Your-Own Web Sites Can Lure Sexual Predators

HOUSTON TX -- A new Internet business that allows children 13 and older to create their own Web sites is raising concerns among parents and police.

Local 2's sister station, KSAT-12 News brought Piczo.com to the attention of the San Antonio Police Department.

The Web site allows children to post personal pictures and information for their friends to see free of charge. Police are worried that some of the information contained on the Web sites could be seen and used by sexual predators or other criminals.

We didn't find anything illegal per se. However, the potential is there that someone that may be preying on young children will go into this Web site and maybe, victimize one of these," said Lt. Mike Gorhum, a spokesman for the San Antonio Police Department's Vice Squad.

Female middle school students created a number of the Web sites.

Police said that the girls made mistakes that could put them in danger.

One of the girls posted a picture of herself standing in front of her home a picture that included the street sign.

Don't give any kind of identifying information to lead these people back to you Gorham said.

KSAT found that a registered sex offender lives just down the street from where the girl was standing.

"A sex offender lives a few doors down and you know he is in trouble for hurting a 13-year-old girl," a KSAT producer said.

"Yeah, I just planned to delete that because my friends told me about that," the girl said.

The teenager is not alone. Even if they are not showing themselves off in pictures, they are spilling it in millions of journal entries across the Internet.

One of the most popular Web sites, www.livejournal.com boasts 1.8 million active writers. In just one minute, 195 people log on to leave information about their lives for all to see.

The discovery prompted a warning to parents from Gorhum.

"We're asking parents to monitor the activity of their children on the computer," said Gorhum. They may not be aware of their children posting the pictures on these Web sites.

Authorities said parents should check the history function on the child's computer to see which sites have been visited. They should also ask to see their child's Web journal or Web site.

Police said the home computer is not the only one that parents should check. With the advent of cell phones with Internet access, kids can use the phones to visit chat rooms and send and receive pictures.

Sort of odd when my daily search for Sexual Predator News info, and getting LJ as a result. The original article has a video broadcast element worth watching too. I do agree that parents should keep an eye on what kids are up to online (including cell-phone use for posting images and text to the web)

Moment of Lyric:

It's a thousand pages, give or take a few,
I'll be writing more in a week or two.
I can make it longer if you like the style,
I can change it round and I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.

Got to chitty-chat with Sam for a bit, too... first time in a while.. we seemed to keep missing one another. He got a lacerated hip and was mugged! He sounds ok.

It isn't surprising that LJ would attract the attention of sexual predators. After all, wasn't the reason Brad started the place just so he could meet hot geek babes?

Seriously, though, kids ought to be careful about putting identifying information anywhere on the Internet. But unless they are very careless, I doubt that LJ exposes them to any more danger than a public park or a mall- and probably even less, especially if they use the filtering mechanism. Friends-only mode and post filtering probably make LJ and its clones some of the safest sites on the web, and a lot safer than hanging out in places where strangers have cars rather than keyboards and monitors.

And I think that maybe that television station was just doing a story they could make sound juicy and sensational to goose the ratings for May sweeps. It's a good thing most kids will never meet up with any of those scary people who produce TV news shows!

Uhp! It was right there!

I hope that's not indicative of my day...

I thought it was a Weird Al version of "Cowboy Something or Other" by Kid Rock.

I *use* to know stuff about music...

Hi Hi Hi! :)))

I was talking to a police officer about tasers not too long ago. She said adverse effects from tasers are usually caused when the person is "on" something. It's something that frustrates police when people are angered by tasers, but tend to leave out that fact. She said the media sometimes leaves out that fact when reporting on it, too. I don't know enough about it to know if that's true, though.

I'm 'leaning' toward panic attack or hysterics, after seeing the videos..and knowing the little I know about the pain going away quickly.

What I find highly interesting --
With the birth of COPS (has it been about 16 years?) & multitudes of other video shows -- people who still default to defiance and irrational actions, rather than cooperation. Yeah, I know cooperation won't help with some cops. I have to say if I were a cop though.. I would be tired & weary of hearing people's constant denial, lies, weirdness, etc., too.

hihihi! *huggo* Good to see you!

I suspect hysterics is it, too.. she seemed pretty able to talk and act coherently, if unwilling to comply.

I think some people just think that the rules don't apply to them, or they don't take direciton well. If a cop has a gun pointed at me, you can bet I'll lay on the ground, rather than talk on the cell phone.

I think you're right. Still..when people don't think rules apply to them, despite the info and media we have in present day - I don't feel especially sorry for them.

I owe my cooperation with police officers to COPS. Haha :0)

I think that most folks can consider themselves more secure with all the video and such... all th emore reason to play nice -- to make a better case when court time comes.

It's pretty scary.. you know where your priorities lie when a gun is to your head!

Mine were "Don't let the cat out!"

P.S. I know you are living a fun personal life as of late - because you are AWOL on Netflix! Hehe

Hope everything is going well. Though I still can't figure out who's who with all the initials. Are there like 3 or 4 girlfriends - or only one? ;)

hehe... so true! I finally got around to watching fog of war last night!

I've got a mixed bag emotionally right now... only MP is in the girlfriend catagory, and if you'd asked me 2 weeks ago, I'd have said we're just hanging out. She's heading back to South America this weekend for a few months or so... I really like her a lot, but don't know if there's a future. Wait and see, I guess. My last long-distance relationship sort of put me off of doing another. She'll be back in Aug/sep, if all goes well, so I can always try to warm it up again when she gets back... and I have her email and phone numbers.

Other initials are just friends. MP got pretty jealous and territorial when I was flirting a litle with another girl, and that confirmed that there was something more there than a dance-buddy.
