Bro calls me up and gives me some BS about "just having seen Andy on the street" and wasn't hanging out with him.. after I called him up, and Andy answers bro's cell for him. Man... how stupid does he think I am? He says that he met Andy in the Starbucks, even though I saw them ride up together and both bikes locked together with the same chain. He's a bad liar, and changes his story when called on it.

He brings me fatigue. I'm looking forward to the weekend.

I was right about my yearly cold. Throat's sore, chest stuffy, throat glands a little swollen, voice gravelly. I'm glad I didn't go out last night, or I would surely have blamed it on how I am now... not to mention that I'd probably have infected the whole poorhouse.

Chimp's Paintings Head to London Auction

LONDON (AP) -- Congo the chimpanzee led a brief artistic career and enjoyed little critical success, despite the patronage of his contemporary and fellow painter Picasso. But nearly half a century after Congo's artistic career, some of his paintings are going on sale at a prestigious London auction house alongside works by Andy Warhol and Renoir.

Three tempera on paper works - brightly colored compositions of bold brushstrokes - will be featured as a single lot in the sale of Modern and Contemporary Art at Bonhams on June 20, the auctioneer said Wednesday. The lot estimate is $1,130 to $1,500.

Bonhams said it believed the auction is a first.

"I would sincerely doubt that chimpanzee art has ever been auctioned before," said Howard Rutkowski, the auction house's director of modern and contemporary art. "I don't think anybody else has been crazy enough to do this. I'm sure other auction houses think this is completely mad."

Congo, who was born in 1954, produced some 400 drawings and paintings between the ages of 2 and 4. It was not immediately known if he was still alive, a Bonhams spokeswoman said.

In 1957, animal behaviorist Desmond Morris organized an exhibition of chimpanzee art at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts, including works by Congo. Critics reacted with a mixture of scorn and skepticism, but Picasso is recorded as having owned a painting by Congo, Bonhams said.

"Paintings by apes may be seen as humorous or as a derisive commentary on modern art," the auction house said in its lot description. "However, Morris' studies were a serious attempt to understand chimpanzees' ability to create order and symmetry as well as to explore, at a more primeval level, the impetus behind our own desires for artistic creativity."

Congo quickly learned how to handle a brush and pencils, instead of knocking them over or trying to eat them. He painted within the boundaries of the sheet of paper and never allowed the paint to spill over the edge. He also appeared to know when he had finished a painting: He refused to pick up his brush or pencil over the work.

Although lately I've been buying them like crazy--which is not smart because I never get to watch them---although I dream of having a big ol' movie fest one day.

I DID watch the copy of Something Wicked This Way Comes this week---finally!
And I bought Aquatic Life with Steve Zissou and Lemony Snicket---at the rate I'm going I won't watchthem until October!


I'm much more of a book person these days--probably because my TV was hit by lightning last summer and I haven't bothered replacing it---it DOES make it hard to watch movies :D

Oh we'll see how "easy" you are when faced with the 20 hour BBC production of Pride and Prejudice! My dad and little brother (the 2 biggest TV hogs) both flail on the ground and make hacking and gagging noises at the thought of that prospect. I am allowed to wathc Bridget Jones because in my father's words "Mr. Darcy takes a lot less time to work his magic in that one."

Yeah I'm all about the strappy sandals (http://www.keenfootwear.com) as long as I can slosh through the mud and muck in them (Jane Austen paperback in tow of course-cause all good tomboys need a secret girly obsession!)

I have one pair of slightly cha-cha heels that I have yet to be able to wear out of the house--I keep practicing but I fall on my butt everytime I wear them---I don' tknow how women ever learn how to walk in heels---I must've missed that class. All Pyewacket knows is that when I get out the ominous shoebox its time to clear out of the room or head for high ground!
