scottobear: (1- stars in my eyes)
[personal profile] scottobear

If you were a policeman, and all things otherwise are equal, would you want a Star or a Shield for a badge?

Frickin' power-surges happening last night crapped out my chats. Sorry about that.

Jasmine...she smelled like red bull and stale cigarettes. She blew me a kiss when I left. Good times. Nice to have a moment of noir.

Visited [livejournal.com profile] mzkitten at her work again yesterday. She's been struggling with a lot, but puts on a solid game face. I admire her strength.

Cripes... The Dibneys and now Blue Beetle. Who's next, Ambush Bug? Somehow, I can't see BB as the new Spectre.

I've seen Dr. Who episode 2, now, and I really, really don't want the guy playing the current doctor to leave. Note to self, offer to fire off CDs to GrayPumpkin, [livejournal.com profile] christin, et al. Fun episode, self-contained again, though it sandwiches in right after the first one leaves off. (Nice addition of aliens, and unfortunately-placed over-sized fans. (also, The previews for episode 3 looks like fun, too.)

Good News for non-torrenting folks. Dr Who episodes are Due for release individually on May 16, 2005, along with first and third episodes, and in a boxed set in the autumn of 2005.

Kang is an awesome name to image search on. Look at what you get!

A Cannibalistic world-destroyer

A sweaty Klingon

http://scottobear.com/lj/archives/040405/kang4.jpg
A cute girl with a violin.
(I bet she's some sort of conquerer, too.. a conquerer of HEARTS!)

I now love the name Kang. Kang, Kang, Kang.

If I ever get a Monkey, I will name him or her Kang.

The only reason I love monkeys more than robots is that robots don't have feelings. (unless you're talking about sci-fi AI robots, in which case, they become "people".)

Monkeys can feel awe.

I am not a non-toxic safety crayon, but if I was, I'd be a nice orange/rust color. With a purple paper wrapper.

Tiki Torch Nights at the Mai Kai! - I want to go! Mmm... Hukilau!

Seen on my walk home yesterday.

Apparently Driver 8 breaks at Einsteins. (He must've turned in his train for an engine.)

Moment of lyric:

I saw a tree house on the outskirts of the farm.
The power lines have floaters so the airplanes won't get snagged.
Bells are ringing through the town again,
Children look up, all they hear is sky-blue, bells ringing

And the train conductor says
'Take a break Driver 8, Driver 8 take a break
We can reach our destination, but we're still a ways away'

Shield. I just like the idea of cops carrying a "shield" around, to protect them, at least in concept. It derives from when one of my best friends was in the RCMP, and I wanted him to haev all the protection he could get, to keep him safe and sound.

weird-o windy weather has been causing power brown-outs here, and funking up my DSL modem. which is annoying, since I have VoIP. I don't think my mom will ever grasp the concept that when my 'net goes down, it means the phone is unrealiable, too (tho it does indicate that she's grasped DSL, as phone line does not equal internet for her anymore, which is impressie in itself, as she is afraid to even turn on a computer lest she do something wrong)

and you and my younger brother apparently have similar taste in women.

the red bull thing is just a story seed. Jotted it down so I would work form there.

How does VoIP work for you when the power works?

(My mindset is similar, I like the symbolism of a shield to represent protection of others, though most people seem to favor the Star.)

You can set it so that if the ISP/modem becomes unreliable, calls will be temporarily be forwarded to another phone (in my case, my cell). however, something goes wonky during a call, it just drops the call.

I have it set to ring to my home phone and forward to my cell, so they ring simultaniously. I'm accesable 24-7, if I please (though sometimes, I pretend Im not ;-).)

I also have a "phantom" second number (5$ extra)which has Ottawa's area code- so anyone there can call me as if it were a local all for them

Obviously, I'm a total VoIP convert. The service is reliable, the calls are s clear as a landline, it's MUCH less expensive than the long distance plan I had, and best of all, I got to tell verizon where to stuff their home phone service.

I like the sheriff's star, the sheild is just hoaky, security guards get them. I think the star has a little more credibility attached to it, Texas Ranger stylee.

- You need to put your router and VoIP modem on a UPS. In most cases you shouldn't lose cable and should never lose DSL during a power outage.

- Thanks for being there for Heather, she's a genuinely wonderful girl and a real sweetheart (don't let her know I said that). I really wish I could give her a big hug.

- Kang is the first ever Klingon, played by John Colicos, who also played Count Baltar in the original BattleStar Galactica. See Kang is legendary.

Shield, please. I've always liked the idea of the badge being a protecting force for the cop, even if that's not always the case in the real world.

Nice violin, by the way.

And, oh yeah, the whole Blue Beetle thing has me a bit cheesed off. It just seems like DC is going around saying "who can we kill off now?" I think it stinks, because BB is classic.

Maybe. Though don't more rural police/sheriff's departments still use the Star rather than the Shield?

yup. heck, you won't find a shield *anywhere* in Texas.

Thats why then. Walker, Texas Ranger has influenced my decision. :)

Most policemen don't use bear traps or biplanes to capture prey, either... sadly.

The world might be more interesting if they did. Plus, they would always catch the criminals with minimal harm to themselves.

In a perfect world, all policemen would be Walker, Texas Ranger.

Or Barney Miller.

Shield. The star strikes me as juvenile. Maybe that's juvenile of me to think that it's juvenile.

If I had milk: "a conquerer of HEARTS!" would have made me spit it out of my nose for laughing. Thank you Scott for allowing me to make my presence known this morning at work.

Speaking of Jasmine are you working on anything? I'm not *push* trying to *push push* be pushy or anything.

thanks! actually Jasmin is the start of something I'm sort of messing with right now. between sin city, hanging out in nightclubs lately, and seeing cute asian girls with violins, it almost has to get written. :)

Thanks for the push!

Hooray for making you laugh! it's my pleasure to nearly push non-standard fluids out your nose. :)

Besides. KANG! is such a great name for a cute girl.

The new epsiode of Dr. Who was very good, but not sure about the idea of killing off the Time Lords. I'm hoping we get some more info on that, because otherwise its a big departure from established canon.

Date: 2005-04-05 02:00 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com
Yeah, I thought that was sort of odd... but id did take place 5 billion years in the future... hopefully that means they're still around well before that.

Or did they exist outside of time somehow? I forget. I imagine the Master will still show up, sooner or later.

I did like the wind-up toy tardis... spin the wheel, turn the knob, pull the dipstick to make it go places.

Date: 2005-04-05 02:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eryx-uk.livejournal.com
*Gets his geek hat on*

Well, previously, Galifreyan present was way into our future and by the will of the Time Lords, no Tardis could pass that point. But with them out of the way, I suppose that restriction is no longer there.

Also, Galifrey was protected from outside attack (both the Daleks and the Cybermen had tried to conqour the Time Lords) by impenetrable shielding. So I'm guessing perhaps it was a civil war?

And the wind-up Tardis was pure class. :)

Date: 2005-04-05 02:11 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com
I would suspect that Time Lords are like ninjas. Only a Time Lord can kill another Time Lord.

5 billion years is quite a span... I wasn't sure if they existed in E space or if they were on our plane.

I hear Daleks might be getting an upgrade, so that they can go up and down stairs!

I miss the cybermen.

Date: 2005-04-05 02:18 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] eryx-uk.livejournal.com
Ah, but Daleks can go up and down stairs. In the Episode "Rememberance of the Daleks" (the same episode to feature the first episode of Dr. Who on a TV in the background. Heh), a Dalek chases Silvester McCoy and Ace up stairs by generating an anti-gravity field under itself.

The Time Lords were native to our universe, not E-Space.

I know far too much Dr. Who for my own good.
