Well, nuts. Power outage, big entry destroyed, auto-draft function didn't make it. So, quickie recap.

Husband of the Boss was Mark Lenard's roomie in school. So, I'm tutoring a colleague of Spock's dad on how to use a computer. George used to hang out with Jack Benny & Mary Livingston as a kid, too.

Last Boss had Bill Daily visit once in a while.

20 ways to say no

I should pick up a new swiss army knife sometime soon. Something slim and compact... I don't need a fish scaler or laser pointer built into it. The Lefty has my interest.

In a more optimistic spin on Sturgeon's Law, I firmly believe that 10% of everything is more than worthy of your attention. I tend to agree with hanlon's razor, too.

Additionally, I'm not crazy about Cole's Law.

Kurt Vonnegut - Eight rules for writing fiction

1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.

2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.

3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.

4. Every sentence must do one of two things -- reveal character or advance the action.

5. Start as close to the end as possible.

6. Be a sadist. Now matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them -- in order that the reader may see what they are made of.

7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.

8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible. To heck with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.

A Bad Day's End (a meme by [livejournal.com profile] fianna, via [livejournal.com profile] talonvaki)

Who makes you feel better when you come home?
(post a pic of your happy-makers in your journal, and pass it on!)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v14/scottobear/LJstuff/newtpeeks.jpg

Well, heck, anyone who knows me even a wee bit has seen pictures of little Newtie. He's always happy to see me when I come home. See also the icon.

And he takes care of me when things seem a little overwhelming. Newton makes me a happy monkey. Plus, he rides my shoulder like a parrot.

I want a glass of cold lemonade, some big ol' thick fried potatoes, and a dessert of chilled raspberries.

With winds outside blowing tumbleweeds down the roads (otherwise abandoned.)

The day off from work.

A hammock, a good book, and Newt sleeping happily

Wind chimes soft.

Yikes! I lost myself a bit there... a bit longer than I thought! Until later, dear journal!

You can't beat the warmth and unconditional love of a fur baby!

Although Pye is currently peeved at me---I decided to play with his toes while he's sleeping--he does that to me while I'm sleeping and I thought I'd reciprocate---he wasn't amused.

Aww... Newt's variable about letting me mess with his feet/toes. If he's sleeping/sleepy, he'll usually let me fool with 'em.

Big hugs to you and Pyewacket!

Aww! Shoulder riding kitties are so much fun. I was at one of the local pet stores not too long ago - they have a store cat - she's Siamese. Usually she's crashed out on top of one of the fishtanks (warm light), or in front of the dehumidifier (warm breeze). She was on one of the fishtanks this time, but was I was stopping to scratch her behind the ears, she heard a couple of kids come into the shop. She was up my arm and curled around my neck before I had a chance to do anything about it! Rode around up there for a few minutes, until I'd decided there wasn't anything I wanted to get at the store for the moment. I deposited her back ontop of the tank she'd come from, and went on my merry way.

Of course, I had to change and put my catty clothes into the wash as soon as I got home, and probably should have showered too... the better half is very allergic to kitties.

That's neat.. I've never seen a siamese do that sort of thing. Newt will divebomb me from on top of the fridge, or climb my back if I'm stading in front of the futon, usin his rear claws as lumberjack tree spikes. Owch!

Your citations of Sturgeon's Law, Hanlon's razor, and Cole's Law intruiged me, but I could not get the definition for cole's law. Unless you were making a pun about coleslaw. I didn't like broccoli once either, but had it for breakfast this morning.

I was, indeed, making a cole slaw joke. Clicking on each link will take you to a bigger definition.

Yum, broccoli!!

Cats are so cool! Lucille always sits on the back of a chair in our library in the afternoon. It affords her an excellent view of the garage and the back door. Its so nice to walk up the back stairs after a long day's work and see her waiting for me there, arching her back and meowing "hello".

aww.. Newt's got a doggie aspect to him.. looks out the window when I'm coming home, and meets me at the door, first thing. :)

My cat Bowie fetches occasionally, and is the best space heater in the house. Climbs under the covers these winter nights. Sometimes he hunts me though, but I'll take it for all the benefits.

I'm a dog person really, but I don't have the desire nor the time to keep one as a pet.

I'd rather not have a pet than have one and not be able to look after it properly.
