Dreams of being some sort of calcified Stretch Armstrong last night. I was myself, but everyplace on my body that I could feel bone crumbled when I pressed with a little effort. I was afraid to crush my face, but popping my knuckles and stretching my fingers like taffy was almost hypnotic. Now that I'm awake, I think I would've tested on something safer, like my little toes or something. I'm glad I still could walk upright and use my limbs normally, too.

The sun was an odd color of orange... for some reason, my entire dream took place at sunset.. for hours and hours.

More on the google diarist who was fired over his journal

I'm back on my Netflix kick. I've got my DVD burner ready to rock and roll. Er, I mean, I'm looking forward to watching lots of good movies.

I don't think I've ever mentioned that I live around the corner from the Cosmic Muffin , a houseboat made out of Howard Hughes' Boeing 307 stratoliner (a variant of the B-17 Flying Fortress).

Pictures of it parked at the Riverwalk at night and during the day.

It's pretty keen...when I first saw it, I got the sense that it was submersible.

Woman Makes Up Story About Tossed Baby

A woman who claimed to have witnessed a newborn being thrown from a moving car was the baby's mother and concocted the story as a way to abandon the child and conceal her pregnancy from her family, officials said Friday.

"It's not as horrible as we first thought," Sheriff Ken Jenne said. "The baby was never thrown out of a moving car. This is the case of a disturbed woman who gave birth and did not want to keep her child."

No charges were brought against the woman, 38-year-old Patricia Pokriots. She was committed for psychiatric evaluation under a law that allows for people who are a threat to themselves or others to be held for 72 hours.

On Thursday afternoon, Pokriots dropped an hour-old baby off at a sheriff's station, telling authorities that she had scooped the boy up after seeing him tossed out of a car onto the grass, Jenne said. Pokriots told investigators she saw a couple arguing in a car, then witnessed the woman throwing the child from the passenger side.

Eventually, investigators found inconsistencies in Pokriots' story, and on Friday she acknowledged that she had lied, the sheriff said.

"She has indicated that she does not want the child," Jenne said.

The 8-pound, 2-ounce boy, whose umbilical cord was still attached when he was brought in, had no injuries. Nurses at the hospital nicknamed him Johnny.

The sheriff said the woman had kept her pregnancy a secret, and had initially planned to take the baby to authorities. State law allows a mother to abandon a baby at any medical facility or fire station within three days of birth.

But she came up with a cover story after seeing two people argue inside their car, the sheriff said. A boy who was playing nearby did see a couple arguing, but never saw them throw anything out, Jenne said.

Pokriots is a barmaid and has an arrest record including an aggravated battery charge. "She said she may be a threat to herself," Jenne said. He said she has a 10-year-old child who will be taken from the home Pokriots shared with her mother.

No one answered the door at the home on Friday.

A neighbor, George Bonilla, said he never heard of trouble involving the family and was unaware of her pregnancy.

"I never saw her with a big belly or anything like that," said Bonilla, who's lived near Pokriots for 23 years. "We'd say good-bye, hello. They're nice people. She's a sweet girl."

Don Simpson's got an online journal, and I find this entry about concrete operationals entertaining. (Don's the creator of Megaton Man, amongst other things). I especially like the comment -
"I disagree that comics have a "stigma" that keeps people away. This is a country where adults watch NASCAR and listen to country music in broad daylight; they are not ashamed about doing anything they damn well please. They just don't want to read comics. Comics don't speak to the overwhelming majority of adults. There are content as well as formal issues at work, not stigmas -- or bad potty training."

About the unexpected hazards of having a blog...

A good friend of mine here in the UK just got fired for having one. He'd worked 15 years for a local museum, had a blog up for less than half a year, in which he rarely made comments about his place of work. They pretty much had an agenda. Worse, he can't sue the bejezus out of them as it's the Board that forced him out. He sues, and it'll be the museum that pays... and he's too decent a bloke to do that.

It all seriously bites. Yes, I guess as a bunch of us have been discussing, there is the LJ Friends lock, but dammit all... Sigh.

it is a shame that certain things can't be aired in public, but I guess it's the same as taking out a page in your local paper.

I had a stretch armstrong when I was a kid! I remember being so upset that they were selling out everywhere, afraid that I wouldn't get one. Also remember that NONE of my other girly-friends though he was cool like I did. That Stretch was a toy for boys. ;)

But I remember some sort of dragon/godzilla stretch, too? My mom asked if I culd handle the godzilla stretch, if we culdn't find stretch armstrong, and I wanted no part of that godzilla. He was for boys, I said.

I let a few friends in on that I had a journal where I worked last..but I think I will never do that again. one of them, despite being close to me..turned out to be a not good person. I then no longer wanted her to read my journal. Who knows if something went down if she wouldn't have pointed out my journal to everyone, that sort of thing.

There was a stretch monster! a green scaly one... and a stetch octopus... and armstrong had a weinerdog, fetch armstrong. :)

I wanted stretch monster more than stretch armstrong, too, to be honest... I am a boy, after all.

there's a couple of people at work that know I have a journal, but none that can read filtered posts. (they only read from my website, not lj lists or anything.) Honestly, I'd prefer that they didn't know, but thigs get figurd out when they went to my website via a personal email.. from now on, I send stuff from hotmail or yahoo.

I find the whole contretemps over the fired google bl*gboy amusing. People on both sides take themselves so seriously, and many of the comments on his post are hilariously out of proportion to the situation. Maybe that's just a common mindset among users at Bl*gg*r, but I doubt that even the most accomplished trolls and drama kidz at LJ could equal some of those "serious" bl*gg*rs for self-important snottiness. They badly need an injection of humor. Have they no cheeks in which to place their nattering tongues?

I think the gross majority of journalist blauge-y types could use a good swift kick in the pants and free ride on the clue train.

I rather hoped that some of the "smuglies" were being maybe a little ironic.
