Walkabout was nice.. I got some needed chores done, and eyeballed some notebooks, as lappie's feeling his age. 256 meg is lappie's max, and the OS is getting too fat, and the HD too small.

I may get myself an early Christmas present sometime in the next month or so. The Averatec 3500 is looking like a winner. I'd prefer the pen to be mounted in a silo, rather than just on the side of the screen, but that's a trivial concern next to it being a tablet-notebook that's under $1000 after rebate.

I'll see how I feel in a week or two.

Do any new cars have that little triangular window in the door? Strange nostalgia, seeing one recently.

Best line I've heard lately...

"A SUV with an American flag on it is like a whore wearing a rosary."

Random scotto factoid: Lately, when I say the word nice, is sounds to me like "noice".

Youth harassed by ghost searching for a husbandSite Meter

A female ghost searching for a husband had her wish fulfilled when a “wedding ceremony” was held for her in Tampin, Negri Sembilan, on Sunday, China Press reported.

The daily reported that the spirit had been “harassing” a youth, causing him to have sleepless nights.

The youth went to a medium in Tampin who told him that the spirit was that of a woman who committed suicide five years ago at the age of 19.

The medium said the ghost would only “release” the youth if he found her a husband.

The wedding was arranged after a male ghost was found as the “groom.”

The youth reportedly slept soundly on the night of the wedding.

Deputy Home Affairs Minister Datuk Tan Chai Ho told China Press that smart cards would be implemented next year to reduce the number of illegal immigrants.

Details to be stored in the card include the worker’s thumbprint, work permit and entry record.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn said the problem of fake higher degree qualifications was serious.

He told Sin Chew Daily that using a fake qualification to apply for a job was against the law.

The daily reported that traffic police would start the two-week Ops Sikap on Nov 8, in conjunction with the Hari Raya and Deepavali celebrations.

Federal traffic police chief Datuk Gingkoi Seman Pancras said police would be stationed at strategic locations to ensure smoother traffic flow.

In a Nanyang Siang Pau report, Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Fu Ah Kiow warned those having honorary titles such as “doctor” not to use the title with their names.

Hey, I was thinking about those little car windows not too long ago. I found myself wishing I had one, so that I wouldn't have to roll the whole window down. They rocked. :0)

I can hear you saying "noice" in my head! ;)

I can see where smokers would love 'em! I remember opening the little triangle up, just to get some fresh air as a kid.

Not sure where I picked up the "noice" way of speaking.. I'm not Irish or British. Who snuck an O in there?

We always called those little windows wind wings. They were supposed to deflect the wind away from the open car window, thus minimizing hair disruption. They vanished when air conditioning became standard on most cars.

My dad's old Mercury has them. It didn't come with them, though. He wanted them, but they had quit offering them as an option the year before.

Then, a few years ago, the car got sideswiped, and the passenger-side door had to be replaced. They were no longer being made, of course (the car being about 20 years old) so my brother tried hunting down a replacement door in various wrecking yards. He couldn't find an exact match for the driver-side door, but he did find a pair from a Mercury one year older than my dad's, exactly the same size, but with wind wings. So, my dad finally got the feature he wanted, twenty years late.
