Stocked up for a lo-ong weekend of being on call. This is what happens when your only other tech that can work Friday or Saturday has things to do.

Got plenty of diet cherry coke, quorn patties, and tofu to ride through it without a hitch, though. Also the fixings to make a mega batch of three-bean salad.

Marinated Three Bean Salad (via MasterCook)

1/2 pound wax beans -- fresh
1/2 pound green beans -- fresh
1 can Soy Beans -- Eden Black (8.5 ounce) drained
1 small onion -- halved and separated into rings
1/2 cup red bell pepper -- chopped
2/3 cup vinegar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup Splenda
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard

Clean the wax beans and green beans, discarding the ends. Microwave in a small amount of water for 7 to 10 minutes, or until crisp tender. Place the cooked beans in a colander and run cold water over them to stop the cooking process. Drain and cool the beans completely.

In a large bowl, combine the cooled green and wax beans, the black soy beans, the onion rings, and the red bell pepper.

In a small jar with a screw-top lid combine the vinegar, vegetable oil, Splenda, celery seed and dry mustard, of desired. Cover and shake well to blend the ingredients.

Pour the vinegar mixture over the vegetables. Stir gently, then cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight, stirring occasionally. Drain before serving.

I did a little messing around, and I added adsense to my non-lj.com pages (they're all purely text ads, based on the page content. I'll be interested in seeing what stuff my journal page pulls up.) If it turns out to be annoying, I'll yank it. I'm currently going with a tall column, 5 adds high, but I may trim that down to a single button.

Current links are - (currently public service ones, that don't count toward any income, but good causes.)

Gorillas, Just for Dads, Hunger Relief in America, Asian Developing Nations, Volunteer Match, and a bunch of webcam links on Newt's cam page.

Random memory - That hobo guy on In Living Color with the pickle floating in murky brine.

Found an Indonesian 500 Rupiah bill flapping around in the wind on the walk home. (1992 printing) hard to see is the image of a man in a fez watermarked in the center. He reminds me of Boris Karloff's portrayal of Ardath Bey from The Mummy. Also, any currency with an ape on it is A-OK in my book.

I had no idea know what that's worth in Dollars, so I consulted - this exchange calculator, and it says 500 IDR = 0.0533628 USD.

Wow. Paper money, worth just a smidgen over a nickel! Like German Marks during the 20's.

(1 IDR = 0.000106726 USD 1 USD = 9,369.83 IDR )

I guess I won't be retiring on my windfall.

I wonder what the Dragon looked like while the Donkey was under the influence of the "Stallion-potion" in Shrek 2.

Aww.. [livejournal.com profile] comic_getfuzzy (as well as a number of others) has been suspended. drat! I wonder if it was due to bandwidth loss, or something else? [update: [livejournal.com profile] get_fuzzy_feed is active at the moment.]

Saw Ray Iglesias at the pharmacy building yesterday. (First time I've seen him since September, even though he lives right around the bend.)

I have adsense on the free version of Opera, and the entertainment value is almost enough to make it better than the full version. It's a small banner, with two ads and three or four related Google search links. Sometimes it's easy to see the connection with whatever is on the page I'm viewing, but other times there seems to be no relationship at all. Right now I have ads for something called reptilefood.com and The Superworm Farm, Inc. The "related" searches are for crickets, tibetan buddhism, flour, and insects! A puzzling combination, indeed.

Giant lizards with a taste for chilies, perhaps. When I came back to this page just now, the banner content changed. It still shows reptilefood.com, but the other ad is now for something called Your Mexican Marketplace. The three related seach links say; tortilla, insect pictures, and cloak. Stranger and stranger.

I did like the cute after-scene with the dragon and donkey during the closing credits.
