Nobody told me Rod Roddy Died!

A French site mapping out all the covers of Astounding Stories from 1930 - 1971. The name changed over this period from Astounding Stories to Astounding Science Fiction to Analog in 1960.

Too much spirit kills sorcerer

A Sri Lankan magician killed himself during a black magic ritual to harness evil forces after he was overwhelmed by the spirits he had drunk, rather than those he was trying to cast spells on, a press report said today.

The 71-year-old man had used his full force to dash a coconut on the ground as part of the ritual on behalf of a customer, but lost his balance and ended up hooked on the trident, a weapon of Hindu gods, the Sinhalese-language Lankadeepa said.

The paper quoted the victim's son as saying he had been drunk at the time.

Doctors said his death last week was due to excessive bleeding and shock.

You know, dear journal, things like this make me happy that I was born in 1969. Honestly, would the draft work, these days? Wouldn't the *majority* of people come up 4F? (At least for being overweight, or on some sort of medicine.. isn't everyone on one sort of medical track or another, these days?)

Times have changed a lot since the last draft. Or are we just more out of shape?

Well, heck, it's not like Bob Barker put a gun in Rod's mouth or anything.

I notice that Bob's aging rapidly, now... he's some sort of wispy molten mummy. Maybe Rod was what kept him young looking all these years.

Yeah but I never really liked Bob Barker in the first place, so now I have no reason to wake up in the morning to watch TV. Probably better off that way anyway.

Well, actually I do like court shows. I don't know where that came from. Scattered.

Which do you prefer? Cranky old ladies or men that rose up from the ghetto to mete out justice?

Or wapner?

Well, in a perfect world they'd all be Wapner, but I tend to lean toward the crankier judges. Although there's something about a ghetto judge with a chip on his shoulder that cracks me up like whoa. My dad's favorite is Judge Joe Brown, and there's a constant swirl of "TAKE CARE OF YO' OWN BIZZNIZZ" going on downstairs.

He was an icon of me being home sick from school (my entire school career, from 1972-1992)

The price is right was *always* on.

You don't know me. I just stumbled upon your journal because I'm looking to add a site meter to mine, and yours is the second one that comes up in google if you type in "site meter"+"livejournal".

I got the html code from the site, but I can't seem to figure out how to put it into my LJ. Any chance you could help me out?

sure, happy to help out.

do you want to track hits to particular entries, your journal in general, or something else?

if you go to my main journal page, ( http://www.livejournal.com/users/scottobear/ ) and scroll all the way to the bottom, you'll see my counter. if you want to see how many people hit that particular page, and you have a paid account, I can show you how to alter your journal so that the site meter info is at the bottom.

I was looking to see how many people hit the journal in general - though I don't have a paid account. Is it still possible?

well, without a paid account, it's tough to modify your journal's design....an alternative is to put one journal entry dated off in the future (like year 2012 or so) and then put the html for the sitemeter in there.. that'll keep it on top of your journal, and folks who visit will hit the meter.
