Wow..I got down to busy work (idle office nosiness..hee) with that link - and before you know it 3 of us were in a political discussion. ohh, you know how those types of discussions go in the workplace. ;)
I didn't start it..really! Just some nosies looking over my shoulder & interested in the places I was looking up - and before you know it the discussion turned to Kerry this...Bush that...Clinton blah, etc - etc - etc.

That's pretty cool. I checked out my zip code and there were 16 people who donated to George W. and two for Edwards and one for Lieberman.

I guess I live in a pretty Republican area.

It was also interesting to see that of the 16 Bush donators, 10 of them were married couples. As in, two people with the same last name at the same address making a separate donation. I wonder if they get some tax break for that.

It's probably because of the new $2000 cap on donations. Did the married folks each donate the maximum amount?? I saw a lot of that when I looked at my community too....

I noticed that. there's a household near here that did 5 donations of 2k to bush.

That's very neat. I wasn't at all surprised to see that all of the local big money donations (the $2000 folks) around here came from the heads (and wives of the heads) of the big construction companies, banks, and accounting firms...and they all went to Dubyah. And as I scanned down to the smaller donations (the $100 and $200 people), they almost all went to Howard Dean.

Madison's a funny little city that way....everybody here is a Democrat unless they're loaded. (Although that generalization probably holds true for most of the country, huh?)

Behind the government workers unions and the teachers unions, the trial lawyers are the most important bloc in the democratic party. Which is why it's very surprising the lawyer you listed didn't give $2000 to John Edwards since most of his cash came from his fellow trial lawyers. Also, most of those addresses for the max donors are likely business addresses. That was certainly true for the movers and shakers in this town that were listed.

That's fascinating. My zip code brings up a string of valley and mountain towns in several counties, with a total population of perhaps 400,000, and only a page and a half of donors. Even though Paradise is the third most populous community in the region, its first donor doesn't show up until the bottom of the first page, coming in at $200 for Bush.

Donations of $150 each for Bush and Dean appear on the second page, and that's it! $500 total for all of Paradise, which has a population of almost 30,000. Of course, some of those $2000 donations listed as being from Chico might actually be from Paradise commuters who donate through their business addresses, but still... you'd think that all these retired folks around here would be tossing bundles into Bush's coffers, but apparently not. Maybe they haven't been milked yet.

It probably will. Aside from the city of Chico, this region tends to be relentlessly Republican, and the lack of any GOP primary challenge this year could be the cause of those sealed pockets. Once the real campaign gets underway, I wouldn't be surprised to see the money start flowing.

Also, Californians have recently had to concentrate their giving on the recall campaign, and some hotly contested initiative and referendum campaigns, so they've probably put off making donations to the national candidates.
