Just spoke to the pre-trial office,they said bro was denied the pre-trial(which
puts them on house arrest or release until trial date) because of the
outstanding offence. I spoke to the public defenders office and he said the
judge assigns a public defender at his arrainment. I asked how long that would
be,he said up to 30 days.Looks like he's stuck there until it comes up. He can
call the nurse and they will supply any inhalers or other non-contraband
medicine he might need.

Does the court system use those ankle bands for tracking house arrest people at all times, or just when someone doesn't something that could be a danger to others? I often wondered what good house arrest is (not in your bro's situation - I mean in general).

House arrest is good in that the person isn't taking up space in the prison system, and can be semi-functional (able to wash when he chooses, sometimes have limited exit times, to go to and from work, for example.

Basically, it's a money-saving process and it allows for a few more freedoms to non-violent offenders.

anklebands vary by region... a former boss arrested for embezzlement had to wear one, just to be sure he didn't go more than x-feet from his house. it is a punishment, just that the cage is a lot more comfortable.

Hmm...that jostled something out of memory. Back in my teens, I had a friend who kept getting constant DWI's (DUIs nowdays?). He was put on house arrest, but he took off drunk on a moped (his thought that it wasn't a car, & therefore Okay) one night when he wanted beer, and was pulled over because of his swerving with his newly bought beer strapped to the moped. When the house arrest didn't work, he got 6 mos in jail. I'd forgotten all about that. ;)

did you ever visit your friend in jail?

I think DWI/DUI are the same thing, depending on the state / county refering to it.

Silly guy should've had a friend bring him a beer!
