SUMMERTIME

Summertime and the living' is easy
Fish are jumpin' and the cotton is high
Oh, your pappy's rich and your mammy's good lookin'
So hush little baby, don't you cry

One of these mornings you're gonna rise up singin'
Then you'll spread your wings and you'll take to the sky
Until that mornin' there ain't nothin' can harm you
With mammy and pappy standin' by

one of my favorite peter gabriel efforts, and this is a big deal, because i am a huge fan, is his rendition of that song on The Glory of Gershwin.

Porgy and bess is an amazing set...

Joni Mitchell. On Herbie Hancock's Gershwin effort (darn-- the name escapes me atm). No, wait-- "Gershwin's World." Love it :)

Also quite fond of Blueberry Rhyme (Herbie and Chick) off that album. Stevie Wonder's rendition of St. Louis Woman is also incredibly Nummy :)

...do I get a cookie?

Wondeful sense of tunes, but not who I was thinking of... more of a Janis Joplin vibe. But your stuff is flavorful, and eclectic. Coloryourself in for two cookies.

Oh, yummy-- thanks :)

Yeah, that's a really good one, too!

A few years ago I was at work listening to some public radio station and they were playing Joplin's Summertime. It was nummy. A few moments later, they announced "you guessed it; that was Summertime, sung by the one and only Janis Joplin." Then they started playing Summertime again, but an instrumental "Yup, you guessed it, that was Summertime, this time by... (someone else)." They played at least THREE HOURS of Summertime, with no two renditions the same. :)

I quite enjoyed it, though I can't help but wonder if the DJ got fired. :P

Oh, I bet that was neat... the closest I've ever come is a rhino CD of like 23 different versions of "louie louie"
