on a nostalgia kick now.

here's another.

The Little Boy and the Old Man

Said the little boy, "Sometimes I drop my spoon."
Said the old man, "I do that too."
The little boy whispered, "I wet my pants."
"I do that too," laughed the little old man.
Said the little boy, "I often cry."
The old man nodded, "So do I."
"But worst of all," said the boy, "it seems
Grown-ups don't pay attention to me."
And he felt the warmth of a wrinkled old hand.
"I know what you mean," said the little old man.

Shel Silverstein!!! :-) My favorite:
"If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...
If you're a pretender, come sit by the fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
Come in!
Come in! "

I miss him. :)

Shel Silverstein is a wonderful writer.

I've never read anything of his that I didn't adore.

Ahh, I still cherish his books.

I agree with you... he's a treasure, and it's a shame he had to be buried.

It's a shame to lose him, simply.

I looove Shel. I bought my son Shel for Christmas last year - and he was only 3. But I know he'll love his work as much as I do. =)

That you should post this now - the timing is pretty good :)
Last week at school my son (4 yrs old) had an "accident". He was terribly embarrassed and the next morning refused to get ready for school. I reassured him that things like this happen to all 4 year olds and some kids that are even a little older. He said: so it will never happen again when I am grown up? I told him, it will happen again, when you are very old. He got some comfort from this - whenever there is a rule or a pattern he seems a little more at ease. Then he got ready for school with no more fuss. I was relieved that he seemed to have gotten over it so quickly. On the way out the door he took my hand and said, Don't worry, Mom. If you have an accident while I am at school, I'll help you get cleaned up when I get home.
I laughed so hard I nearly did have an accident!
