Random Scotto factoid - When My brother and I got toys from a similar set (Star wars, Battlestar Galactica, army men, etc) I *always* picked the bad guys / freaky looking ones. I think the only good-guy star wars figures I had were Chewbacca, Yoda and some droids. R2-D2, R5-D4, a Protocol droid (or C-3PO sprayed chrome rather than gold.)

Bad guys simply have cooler sculpts/shapes/uniforms/evil robo voices or growls.

I agree totally. I owned Boba fet, stormtroopers galore and Dath Vader of course. And of course cylons (both the normal, and the spray painted gold ones). Bad guys are always so much cooler (until they come over for the holidays and demand your gifts...).

If nothing else, the end fo Star Wars II makes you go, "Damn, Palpatine deserved to win this, the stormtroopers were way cooler than the declining Jedi/Republic Council..."

The Battlestar Galactica bugs with the little yellow "web-vests" were some of my favorite toys as a kid.

The only thing I didn't like about Chewbacca was that his head didn't turn.

Yeah, all the old action figures really sucked by comparison to todays stuff. I've a Spiderman with some 30 points or articulation, which is leaps beyond the 4 or 5 points for the old Star Wars stuff. And I forgot about that action figure. I don't think I had that one.

The figure I wish I had the most still is an old action figure form the original Alien movie. It was the alien, about 12 inches high with a lever that made the jaw drop and the second jaw shoot out and it glowed in the dark. Terrified me to death when I was 6 years old. I left it in the light, then took it into the bathroom, shut the door, turned the lights off, then ran like hell.

Great toy. ;)

I agree.. today's stuff has far finer detail and play value, at least on the high end stuff. :)

I remember that Alien figure.. excellent stuff. I remember it being *huge*

It seemed to be monstrously large and overbearing. I've seen one since (at a horendous price I might add which is why I don't have one), but it seems so much smaller than I remember. But isn't that the way with all things from our childhood?

So true... I remember thinking that to be able to touch the ceiling was a feat of giants.
