The streetlight (traffic signal) at the corner of 4th street and 3rd Avenue likes me. It *always* turns green when I approach, from any direction. I'm going to take its picture, and find it a mate on the internet. That's how nice it is.

I think it appreciates the fact that I wave, smile, and say thank you when it lets me pass.

A little politeness goes a long way.

You say "streetlight" instead of "traffic light" or "traffic signal?" Is that a regional usage?

fairly regoinal... it can be confusing... people counting illumination lamps instead of traffic lights.
