A priceless slug-eating plant has been stolen from a nursery in Austria.

It's hoped the flesh-eater has been taken by pranksters rather than rival botanical geneticists.

Slugs and other pests cost agriculture billions of pounds each year so a copy could be worth a fortune. A predator plant could also make many poisons redundant.

Useful energy from random vibrations

A question for the physicists... Just how much energy could you theoretically get from these things? There's plenty of sources for the motive force - just put banks of them under freeway overpasses and between train tracks. But could they be made cheaply enough and placed densely enough to make them really useful?

For instance, could you fit enough of them inside a jet airliner wing to power the plane's electrical systems from the engine vibrations and turbulence? Could you use them near the tires of electric cars to supplement the battery power?

Or provide power to a city by the screams of those who encounter the zombies in the tunnels below?

i read that some advanced electric cars were recharging batteries by using the friction caused during braking (which is alot in urban areas). obviously the energy normally lost as sound and heat.
the zombie idea has the most potential though or attach small generators to the trolleys of old grannies or homeless people. or generators on shopping trolleys how many Kms would they travel each year? or i know a few people that you could attach generators to their mouths and power a small city.
or better still GO RETRO - flower power mix love and good vibrations?

energy recycling idea 5

another idea
imagine the energy that is used to flush a toilet or runs down pipe drains especially from multistorey buildings - now think of that like industrial water turbines using gravity to channel water through turbines running generators. so miniaturize it so small water turbines run on most of these drain pipes that mostly use gravity. sound ridiculous ? part of the technology exists. the rainbow power company already has a water turbine that is realatively low cost and only has something like two moving parts http://www.rpc.com.au/specials/hydropower/hydro.html . small lanholders can just tie a rope across a creek or river and it runs in the middle. these hippies are amazing they have built solar shit for me and always come up with good gear.
and think of the amount of water that travels through those pipes each year. or anything else that transports water

Ha! That's what I was thinking. :)

They need to make rubber sidewalks and collect people's walking.

20 YEAR ENERGY PLAN!

what about all the hype and propaganda generated by the media, politicians and the militaries of the world. imagine if we could recycle all that energy? or better still never expend the energy in the first place?

have you seen the salt pool systems based on water heat differentials to power turbines? ive seen one in aussie and i think the israelis are the leaders in the field.

the pity is if the stupid governments of the free world stopped subsidising farming, trade and some companies , and put those subsidies into innovative energy research and development the world would be a better place and probably less kids would have asthma (air bourne pollants etc.) but then again i guess they wouldnt have the big petro chemical donations at election time scary! there to busy with trade wars, military wars and drugs and sucking up to multinationals.

maybe we should compost the politicans, brew them up and siphon off the methane. once we run out of politicans, start on the celebrities, then rednecks and warmongers, then models (they wouldnt provide much biomass!), then bankers. AND THERE WE HAVE IT A 20 YEAR ENERGY PLAN! AND WORLD PEACE?
