Went to the doctor, and he gave orders for me to stay in bed until I next see him -- in a week. He wrote me a note for work, and three scrips for pain and anti-inflammatory.

for those following in the meds department, I'm now on oxycontin(20mg tabs) (not one I'm fond of... its addictive, and I don't like putting stuff like that in my body.), supplemented with oxycodone,(325 mg tabs) (related and also habit forming) and naproxen (500 mg, maximum dosage) as the anti-inflam.

Variants on Percoset, which has been prescribed to me in the past... fortunately, I had no addictive cravings for it.

Some interesting stats on abuse.

I'm supplementing those meds with meditation, nag champa, soft lighting, thoughts of my sweetheart, Newtie-purrs, and Mr Chan's Chinatown Almond Cookies.

My current upset is my awe at a doctor that schedules folks for a 1pm appointment, and I don't get to see him until 2:15. That, and apparently Foundation Health is a horrid insurance company...that's why I didn't get better care at the ER. Looking into a better group soon. [update] It looks like Blue Cross / Blue Shield is the way for me to go, same price monthly, but a $500 deductable.

At least naproxen is a really good anti-inflammatory...I've taken that before for my TMJ...it's really really good.

::more healing vibeys for the back::

When I was given Percocet, I never had any cravings for it afterward, but being me (which equals being stubborn), I never really took it until I couldn't stand the pain any more.

Anyway, I'm rambling (sleep dep is fun), get better with lots of kitty lovin'!

I take pain meds on a regular basis for fibromyalgia. It is true that oxycodone is addictive (It’s a bit stronger than the hydrocodone I take). Regulation is the key. Take only what you need, when you need it-
Something I learned in a pain management group: It is FAR easier to manage and control pain, once it is under control. If you find a level of comfort, try to preserve it by taking a half of a pill when four or six hours is up and it's time to take another pill. If you wait for the pain to return before taking more meds, you will find that you need more to get it under control and are taking too much... this is what leads to addiction.
In addition, have you tried a tens unit for your pain? They are wonderful for back and neck pain. Your local chiropractor should be able to hook you up with one, free of charge on your insurance plan. I couldn’t live without mine.

Here is a little info and one for sale (http://www.isokineticsinc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=isokinetics&Product_Code=cg_77600)
Basically, a tens unit is a little battery operated device you wear on your belt that scrambles the pain signals via tiny electrical pulses before they get to your brain. It comes with two to four electrodes that you stick to your body with gel pads (like for an electrocardiogram) in a pattern around your painful nerve/s.
Drug free pain relief at its finest. It also reduces swelling. Heaven sent, let me tell you. My tens unit has saved my life several times.

I used something similar in physical therapy. I'm all for it. I'll mention it to the doc when I see him on monday. Thank you!

Yes they are. You're welcome. Most young Docs will write an order for one, older Docs don't believe in them. If you can’t get your Doc to write an order for one so your insurance will pay, they are not that expensive. :)

Man, I was eating some of Mr. Chan's Chinatown Almond Cookies for the first time, and I thought "Wow, these are goddamend delicious!" Anyway, I decided to Google them, and this entry is the ONLY thing that came up. Just thought you should know.

Anyway, I hope you recovered well and everything worked out. Have a nice day.
