I've got a dilemma.

I was asked at work today, if I could find one person (existing or not) to sacrifice to the great horned goat-god pan, who would it be?

I'm in a TV sort of mood right now, so I'm thinking either Skippy from Family Ties, Urkel, or the white guy from the Jeffersons. Not the British guy, but the blond one.

The things people talk about at work.

Who would you choose?

Eh...

Thinking more along the lines of Chrissy, the little sister on "Growing Pains" or Sarah, the middle kid from the second cast of "Charles in Charge." Or, Beverly from the later episodes of "The Facts of Life." They were all just so whiny and annoying.

*gasp* Not Sarah! She was the lovliest, and most sensitve flower on that abomination of a show. :)

Beverly? I don't even remember her. Chrissy Is an excellent sacrificial lamb, though. :)

While searching for this picture, I came across some very cool information! Nick-at-Nite will begin showing "The Facts of Life" on 9/4/00! 4 hour marathons all next week and then regular showings! Whee!

Yes, she is all of those things as well. Due to your response to that picture, I assume that you are willing to let her be the sacrificial lamb??

oh I think it's too late for that. I think she *is* the goat-god himself.

Urkel seemed nice, but Brucie must go

The guy who played Urkel lived in the same apartment building I did, when I was a grad student at UCLA... he is *so* tall. I saw him in the elevator and he smiled pleasantly enough...

I think I'd sacrifice Bruce Sterling. Not that it would really be any sort of actual *sacrifice*, in my book...

I hear you. I suspect the actor is a fine fellow. Urkel, on the other hand, must go.

Bruce Stirling, the man responsible for killing science fiction for nearly a decade... good call!

Blast From The Past!

Bruce Sterling! He lived here in Austin for a good while, so naturally he was well known by the local sci-fi community and my old writers group.
I only read one of his books and wasn't impressed. When I met him at the local convention some years ago, he once again didn't make much of an impression on me, struck me as a self important jerk and not nearly as clever as he thought he was. I'd probably would barely remember meeting him if it weren't for the rabid and stomach churning fawning of his fans. Never had I sat in a room so full of yes men and sycophants. It wasn't that his message anything I took issue with, boiled down to global warming is a threat and tech is changing the way we live our lives. Really? And he didn't come up with any particularly interesting examples, I remember him going on about sneakers for a while, but his gaggle of followers hooted and swooned like he was revealing the next world shaking scientific discovery and he carried on with all the self important arrogance you might expect from someone who had. I just didn't get it.

Ol' Brucie had such a huge reputation that I had to try two different books... and came away with nothing either time.

I guess there's a market for preaching to the choir. :D

You've got Bill willingham in your neighborhood too, I think.. now he's a fun writer. :D
