If it helps reach out to people, I have taken what you have said to me and extented it, hoping that others may also ask for the same as well as asking to donate blood.
I wanted so badly to be able to give blood, because it would have at least given me a small satisfaction that I was helping. But, the hospital here has put out bulletins on the news all day saying they don't need blood, and to stop calling them. *sigh* Surely it's a good idea to have a good stock on hand, I think!
And our local Red Cross number is now just pulling up a fax line.
I was heartened to see the massive lines of people waiting to donate, though. That was one of the only comforting moments of the day for me.

So instead, I am doing my best to spread the word to have others give blood instead.
