A request to all. I just came across something constructive that could be done in the current situation. Possibly the only constructive thing possible for most people.

If you are anywhere on the East Coast, go and give blood. Emergency Rooms all over New England are likely to need it. The blood supply is going to be severely impacted by this I imagine.

I can't give blood.. I've lived in the UK and because of Mad Cow Disease I'm not allowed to give blood in the US. :(

I'm cursing now because I got my tattoos this year and due to potential blood infection, I can't give blood.

As soon as we get a call from our local Red Cross, I'm taking someone to give blood, though.

I used to donate all the time...When I was jaundice....they told me I could never donate again....=(

I can't get through to my local Red Cross (busy, busy, busy) to find out if they need blood this far away from the disasters. But I'll keep trying, as I need to feel I'm doing *something* in all this chaos.

Blood drives are going up all over the country. Here in San Antonio, there are already 3 hour waits to give blood. There was already a blood drive scheduled for tomorrow and will still happen, but only for as long as it takes to get the blood then they move on.

Again, the blood drive that was scheduled is still going to happen tomorrow, but it won't be an all-day thing. Unfortunately, I am illeligible as a donor; my medical history prevents it. More unfortunate, my blood type is O-. My mother's schedule for the drive was moved up and hour and a half so they could get everybody done and move to another location to get more; she's O+.
