At the Thai restaurant I order my dish at "level 3" spiciness (out of 4 possible levels). I've grown so accustomed to the watered-down tingling that passes for spicy in most of the Thai places around here that generally I just go for the spiciest food they have, and I'm only hedging my bets at this place on the off chance that they serve "real" Thai, in which case the maximum spiciness might be a bit much.

I obviously don't have the first clue what "real" Thai food is. Level 3 is like eating a live Portuguese man-o-war. Normally, I can be munching on level 4 like it was frikkin' toast.

Thank goodness for side dishes! spring rolls... yumma-lumma

Back at home (DC area) there was this Thai place that Larry and I used to frequent called Dusit. We typically ordered the same three or four dishes, until one evening I decided that we would eat something totally out of the ordinary. I ordered this beef dish, and I can't recall the name of it. But seriously, it was the equivalent to sucking on a flame thrower. After only two bites my mouth was offically out of service. All I could feel was the hot tingling, and my scalp felt wet and clammy. That dish sat in my fridge for weeks, and everytime I looked at it I shuddered. It's pad thai and won ton soup for me all the way baby.

yum... what I had was good.... I just hope (and forgive me for saying this) that it's not as hot on the exit as it was on the entrance.
