Am I the only person who remembers Denny's restaurants when they were called Sambo's?

(gads, they even had tiger mascots)

I remember oh to well about eating in a "sambos" and I thought the kiddo was black as well....

I am embarrassed to say I ate there....

poor little Sambo....OMG! that sure was not that long a go....

Gotta agree with the others. I recall the mural over the galley as having a black Sambo. And a tiger. I think I was about 4 or 5 then, so the tiger is what I liked the best.

How odd! I guess one of three things happend...

1. My memory is shot (quite possible!)
2. you're all trickin' me (paranoid fantasy) or
3. the one I went to tried in vain to kill the stereotyping, and was in the minority by showing their sambo as a non-black.

I'm not sure. I worked at Denny's once and got the who history/indoctrination/brainwash but my memory has gotten worse over the years but I'm thinking Sambo wasn't Denny's and I don't recall them being one ever.

To the best of my knowledge, all of the Sambo's changed into Denny's. (I don't know if Denny's was around before Sambos name went away or not)

enraptured showed me how, but i left the space out between lj and user. a tip for you: if you want to show the less than /greater than symbols without turning it into a tag, type in < or > :)
