Ah! Easter Week!

Soon, eggs, hot cross buns, stories of love and sacrifice, airings of the ten commandments, and giant rabbits will fill lives everywhere.

I like Easter, and I'm glad especially of the message that it brings. (and yes, the chocolate too.)

I'm just curious as to why they show The Ten Commandments... is it because it's the best "religious" movie out there? Sort of weird mixing Moses and Jesus... Mo, well he really sort of was the action hero sort of Figure, old Test sort of stuff... Really Kicking tush for God. As opposed to the New Test single person sacrifice...

Who knows, maybe they'll whip up a grand version of that story sometime soon.. better than showing the 7th sign on tv. :)

they show the ten commandments to celebrate passover, not easter. the real question is why this is the only Jewish holiday that gets media recognition over the Christian holiday that falls near it. I'm sure there are some easter story movies out there, I don't know why they showed them. If nothing else, they could do the film version of Jesus Christ Superstar or something. It probably has something to do with the fact that the network owns the rights to the Ten Commandments, therefor it is free to show

Yep, rights are the exact reason why the Ten Commandments are shown above all others.

A cool fact is that The Ten Commandments actually used to be shown a week earlier than Easter, on the actual Passover weekend. They were moved to Easter Sunday because that weekend held a much larger family audience, and therefore a larger share of the ratings. The playing of hte Ten Commandments on Easter became a sort of tradition, much like the way The Wizard of Oz is still broadcast each year.

ah! that's a good point. I think TC is a colossal film, though... hard to beat.

Owning the rights is a real boon... who can't watch that, Oz, or Willy Wonka on the allocated holidays?

I hear you. see, that makes more sense... if it was on a week earlier, I'd might have guessed the Passover connection.
