Why do they call it 7-Up?

Anything had to be an improvement over the original name:

Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda. Figuring that he was going to have a problem selling a product that you needed two years of speech therapy just to be able to pronounce, soda pop mogul C. L. Grigg changed the name to 7-Up, apparently because the drink contained "seven natural flavors blended into a savory, flavory drink with a real wallop." You may wonder what the seven natural flavors were besides lemon and lime. I ain't saying. All I know is, I'm sure glad they dropped the horseradish.

Ok, since you brought up "old" info, do you remember Bubble Up or Simba? Simba was the grapefruit flavoured soda that was really popular in the 60 and 70's .. it was droppped from the market somwhere between 73 and 75 and never came back, Bubble Up (the direct competitor of 7-Up) left about the same time..

horseradish? *eeeps* I am sure glad there isn't any in it now! No wonder Mom wouldn't let me drink it as a kid. (allergies)

We were a White Rock soda family until they left the market in the late 70's, unless Dad brought home something .. he would just walk in and grab the closest thing to hand.

I remember Bubble-up, but not Simba...

Simba sounds like Fresca to me... which I enjoy, even though it's an old person drink. :)

That's the name I was trying to remember.. Fresca! Simba came out about the same time, but for some reason it just didn't have the staying power that Fresca had. I miss it because that was my soda of choice. Do you remember the original Dr. Pepper ads? The ones with the man dressed as a doctor servin the soda in his waiting room? Those were really funny ads, almost as funny as the Alka Selter boy was.. hehehe
