Why Wiccans Suck

As the pop up tells you, you're an dolt if you get offended by the title and refuse to go past it.

Give it a read. See if it applies to anyone you know...

gosh

The scary thing is that, before I broadened my horizons and realized there's much, much more to occult studies than cheap ouija boards and incense, many of these things would have applied to me in my...er, dammit I'm not old enough to say "youth" yet.

Its scary when you babble about embarrasing things you once *did* and realize that...well, they only happened about TWO YEARS AGO.

thank you thank you thank you!

I laughed so hard I nearly wet myself, it was so funny! I can remember hearing so much of that from young goth friends back home. And I am sure that somewhere in my past I have said similar stuff myself, about the Celtic/Druidic path.
I really enjoyed that page alot. Thanks again for sharing.

Yeah!

Thank you! I am so glad I happened to be wandering in the right place to find this. A lot of what was expressed here is what I spent too many worthless hours arguing about with various pagans and wiccans. The comment about the threefold law in particular hit home with me. Had a group of wiccans tell me that I was going to get something back threefold. Brought up the comparison to Xians saying "you're going to Hell" and put a stop to that right fast. Fortunately, most of the people I was dealing with were at least intelligent enough to realize what they'd said and apologized to me.

Anyway, thanks again for posting this. I'm gonna post it in my own journal because it so perfectly expresses so many of my own feelings.

Hmmm....I'm suddenly feeling the urge to whip up a little "Why Buddhists Suck" webpage.

Umm--hmmm...

I've known several Wiccans, though I'm not one myself. I have to say that while a lot of this applies to some of them, it's hardly universal.

Yes, there are people who "misunderstand" the religion. There's a lot more people who misunderstand Christianity. Furthermore, who cares? If the practice, as it's described, is making them happy, so what? Even if I think it's goofy to assume that circles on the ground and colored candles have an impact on reality--if doing it makes them feel better, what's the harm? Only when they start throwing it in others' faces does it become anyone else's business, and while annoying, that's still preferable to being proselytized.

I guess my problem is not with the specific content of this--which, as I said, does apply to some Wiccans--but to the idea that it's universal. Nothing is universal.

And it's also hypocritical. I'm not necessarily talking about anyone on Live Journal here--but I guarantee that some of people who are nodding their heads in agreement with this page would be screaming in rage if someone had put up a "Why Christians Suck" page.

And I still have more respect for a religion that doesn't believe in Hell than I ever will for one that condemns you to eternal damnation for not thinking right.

There are a lot of pages with that theme.."Why Christians Suck"...probably more so then "Why Wiccans Suck." But you see, they (anti-Christian ones) just have different titles.

That's entirely true. And they're just like this one--accurate in describing some of the people in question, but not nearly a majority of them.

Why is drawing conclusions about someone based on their religion any better than doing it based on race or gender? I know I've had to deal with the "all Jews are greedy" stereotype often enough that I'm heartily sick of it.

Yes, I went through my Christian-bashing phase, back in college. And yes, I still get really annoyed at people who come over and start preaching to me. But for the vast majority of Christians--including my wife and one of my best friends--who are content to believe their way and let me believe mine, I have no animosity.

For the writer of this article to say "I have nothing against Wicca, it's the Wiccans I hate" (or whatever he said; I know that's not an exact quote) doesn't make it okay. Most of his concerns are valid on the level of certain individuals; it's when he extended those conclusions to all Wiccans as a group that he lost my respect. There are flaky, arrogant Wiccans. There are greedy Jews. There are hate-filled, oppressive Christians. But to judge them all by the actions of a few--as this writer has done--is no different than assuming that all white people are racist or all black people are criminals. It's prejudice, pure and simple.

By the way, I'm not accusing anyone here on LJ of being racist, prejudiced, or anything else. Just for the record.

Good Readins Scotto!
