buried a squirrel today.
Jun. 14th, 2011 08:35 amWhile seeing Allison off to work, we saw that there was a brown squirrel in front of the Element this morning – someone had hit it with a car, and left it to die.
After she left, I got a bag, a shovel, and gently picked up the body – I walked down to the swamp area at the end of the road, and dug a small hole – said a few words along the lines of “I’m sorry – I hope you had a lot of fun here otherwise. We loved seeing you very much.”
Covered him up, and walked back home. There is no marker where I put him.
I hope the red-backed squirrels in our tree learn from his example.
It was a good day to do it – cool, crisp, calm and dry.
