I had something else to say tonight
but all the words
just ran out of me

i stood there, naked,
and watched the last ones
flow from my lips
and leave laughing

while it is a relief
to not have the multitudes
pressing at the gate,
i wonder where I will find more
since I don’t know
where they came from to begin with

the ones that were in me
still circle me
and mock me
and light my way down

someday i’ll say something apropos,
something sensitive and intelligent
about it all

but first I have to get some more
of those wonderful words
