Does someone ruin a hand or at least lose fingers in *EVERY* one of Tim Powers' books?

Stress of Her Regard - Yup (still reading)
Declare - mm-hmm.
Earthquake weather - yup
On Stranger tides - yes
Last call - yup.

Those are just the ones I've read.

bro has a tri-rail ticked on file for 10/31. neat trick, since he has been in jail since june. someone using his ID, or just a really slow process?

The spawn of the XM Sirius fusion emerges tomorrow, and Orbitcast has picked up the complete channel listing for XM subscribers that goes into effect in less than 24 hours. It's fairly grim for some diehard XM fans—a lot of stations have been erased (bye bye punk channel) or are being replaced by Sirius pseudo-equivalents.

No more upop? lucy? fred? ethel? high standards? soul street? Doesn't look good, kids.

Oh I don't know, was listening this morning and the equivalents seemed fine by me. I listened to Lucy the most and thought it could be a little repetitive and was getting tired of their comercials.
And from what I heard of the UK pop hits today I think I liked it better than U-pop.
Not to mention we get Howard Stern now, which I must sadly admit is a guilty pleasure of mine. So I guess I'm one of those who, so far anyway, is happy with the change.

I guess there are similar ones - soul town vs soul street, for example.

They did some jerky stuff to employees -

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/rawfisher/2008/10/washingtons_loss_xm_empties_ou.html

They found out in the worst possible way: One worker routinely signed on to the company's payroll system and saw that his final day of employment was listed as October 15.

I suppose jerky behavior is a radio staple.

Yeah I'm ok with some of the channels---I hate to admit it but I'm LOVING LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVING "Little Steven's underground Garage" on 59. (SRLSY check it out!) I used to listen to that on Annapolis 103.1 once a week.

But the way they fired people sticks in my craw. I miss Bobby Bennett from Soul Street and Jonathan Schwarztmann from HighStandrads 73. they knew when to play music and when to shut up! Plus I kinda liked that they were DC based! Now the offices are empty. POO!

Yeah I wanna be all uppity and write letters and complain and cancel my subscription but unfortunately I'm in a pacified state after listening to holiday music being played Unseasonably early on Xm this morning! Its hard to be pissed when you are singing Jiingle Bells.

NO and I bet they won't especially since they aren't in DC anymore!!! We just have to listen to some Bawlmer station to hear that song!!!

Yeah didn't know about the lousy way they handled the firings, like Scott said sorta par for the course in radio, but crappy none-the-less.
I am liking the knew stations pretty well though.

The transition has been less painful than I anticipated.. though uk-poop isn't my fave replacement for u-pop.

We hit a deer on Halloween and the Elelment was in the shop this morning for repairs so I'm driving the ol' Ford pickup with no XM and barely a radio. As I'm listening to some gospel station that was the only station I could find I kept trying to change the channel or turn up the music by pushing buttons on the steering wheel! I feel sorry for the guy in front of me that thought I was beeping at him the whole way around the DC Beltway :D
