Actually, you can file an exemption in most states. Some are more liberal than others about it, but here in WI, they can't deny a kid admittance to a public school if you file either a religious or "philosophical" exemption. Private institutions can refuse kids though. But since we aren't putting Oz in daycare and we don't belong to a health club or a church, we don't have to worry about that.
The real trick for us is going to be finding another kid with chicken pox who can give them to Oscar. That's one vaccine I reeeeally want to avoid because it didn't have much long-term testing before it was introduced to the public. But IRL, it has proven to be pretty ineffective so far. It seems to provide only limited immunity and they're finding that the kids who got vax'ed 10 years ago are just getting the disease when they're older and its a more serious condition. I can see the benefit of vax'ing for something like polio. But when was the last time you heard about someone who died or was crippled by chicken pox?? Its a total racket.
