It's funny, the things see when they read my lj (or anyone's, really). How we come across in writing isn't always how we come cross in "real life". My journal makes me out to be a pretty intelligent, loving goofball... I think. That's really only part of what I'm all about. I'm not all rainbows, fluffy bunnies, complaints about my brother and goofy random links about monkeys, robots and bears.

I have my judgmental side, and my angry side, and my lonely side, and my frisky-horndog side... but few, if anyone wants to see that, so many posts of those natures are private or filtered... However, sometimes these do bleed into the public arena one way or another.

I sometimes wonder how people who have known me for years view this lj... do they wonder why I leave some things that are way too much TMI, while other fairly innocuous items get filtered or Scotto's eyes only?

Went to Maya (was Ole' Ole') and the food was lacking quite a bit. They forgot vital aspects of the meal, listed on the menu, and the overall quality was about a 4/10. Fortunately the dinner conversation was more than pleasant, and made up for the mediocrity of the cheese enchiladas. Note to self, take the 10 bus home, as the 11 was just a smidgen late for maximum comfort. Took a nice long roam around riverwalk and talked about whatever comes to mind. It was quite a nice diversion and was once again, a pleasant time-sink. There's something to be said for being able to discuss a wide variety of topics effortlessly.

Moment of Lyric - mp3

The deception with tact
Just what are you trying to say
You've got a blank face, which irritates
Communicate, pull out your party piece
You see dimensions in two
State your case with black or white
But when one little cross
Leads to shots, grit your teeth
You run for cover so discreet
Why don't they

Do what they say, say what you mean
Oh well, one thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long
But then one thing leads to another

The impression that you sell
Passes in and out like a scent
But the long face that you see
Comes from living close to your fears
If this is up, then I'm up
But you're running out of sight
You've seen your name on the walls
And when one little bump
Leads to shock miss a beat
You run for cover and there's heat
Why don't they

Do what they say, say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long
But then one thing leads to another
Yeah, yeah, yeah

One thing leads to another

Then it's easy to believe
Somebody's been lying to me
But when the wrong word goes in the right ear
I know you've been lying to me
It's getting rough, off the cuff
I've got to say enough's enough
Bigger the harder he falls
But when the wrong antidote
Is like a bulge on the throat
You run for cover in the heat
Why don't they

Do what they say, say what they mean
One thing leads to another
You told me something wrong
I know I listen too long
But then one thing leads to another
Yeah, yeah

One thing leads to another...

LJ is definitely a weird medium. Sometimes I wonder what comes across and what does not. And sometimes I assume no one is reading and then I'll run into someone IRL and they let on that they have been reading, just not commenting.

I interact on LJ a lot how I do IRL, like I don't normally talk about my problems when they are unresolved, or I don't attack people. It seems to be just another reflection of my personality.

As far as I'm concerned, you can never fully trust what people present in the cyber-universe. It can be disturbing when people focus on one thing in your own LJ and suddenly jump to the conclusion they know you.

Life nor LJ is an open book and because of that sometimes people just miss out on the factors that balance everything out. The fact that some of us wear masks makes it even more curious when a stranger decides to start reading your web-log.

For example, I hide a lot of my entries from public view. Simply, in view of the fact I do not like presenting myself as a whole. At least, not until I know someone better.

I should also point out I do not harbour a particular interest in armadillos. I wish to stay out view (Hence my list of interests - no one will likely have.) and read journals of articulate people at my leisure.

I'm no obsessive 'Happy-Happy' freak either, don't worry. :)

Hope you don't mind me reading your LJ.

Best,

Drrng

I fully know what you mean. I use LJ as a form of diary more than a means of posting interesting and thought provoking entries (which is probably why its so dull most of the time, heh), but despite that I find that I still have to reign myself in at times. I can't be brutally honest because I'll say something that will either antagonise someone or have them turn around and "eehehhh! He's a sicko!" I'm not a sicko but I am heavily morbid for some reason (something I have to tone down when around people anyway). So, yeah, we arn't exactly who we come across sometimes.

I don't think anyone really sees you as just a cool dude, peace-loving, love the animals Hippie. :) Your darker side has shown through on occasion. We all have it after all.

As one of those people who knew you in real life years ago I never found the parts of you revealed here as strange or inaccurate, but rather just seeing you in another medium. Certainly, I see more of certain aspects of you’re here than I did in real life, some of that is a putting a best foot forward thing, others are a willingness to show aspects of yourself that you didn’t show of yourself to me back then. For example despite the fact we were rather close once you seldom talked about your brother with me, though I do know you shared that part of your life with PM, as you both had some commonalities in that arena.
Hell, even when people know each other in day to day life they don’t reveal every aspect of themselves to each other, or even to themselves sometimes, though the darker/less flattering aspects are certainly more visible without the filter of LJ.
I sorta see LJ as a window of a front room left open for passer by to see, you can look into that window and see the nicely arranged room immediately on the other side of the window, and sometimes you get a glimpse of part of another room around the bend but there is more to the house that you don’t see. Hmm… that’s kinda of creepy stalker like analogy now that I type it out, but what the hey it works.
One of aspects I’ve noticed about myself is that I’m probably a bit more of a wisenheimer in LJ that I am in real life, not because I’m not one in real life, but the extra time this medium affords one makes it easier to say something funny, rather than stopping someone and saying hey remember what you said ten minutes ago well here’s this zinger.

I'm assuming you mean private? Otherwise, I've missed out on some good information. ;)

The lurkers are the ones that surprise me, too...but usually in a pleasant way.

I tend to keep a few things behind closed doors, (or semi-closed friends only posts) that I don't want to turn up on search engines, or might overly jeopardize my job or contract work. (though I wonder if talking about family troubles is a good idea on that front, too)

I'd say that I'm 95% or greater like I am on LJ, and it's just easier to put some things off to the side.

I think that's a fair analysis. (And LJ does promote a reverse stalker vibe... it's a lot easier to share some items in text rather than verbally with others.)

Even with PM, I rarely mentioned my brother unless she was sharing a similar experience and I could compare/contrast with my own trials. (He wasn't as great of a problem back in the day, but still was an issue here and there.)

Lj has a weird blend of correspondence and conversation.

Not true! People are complex with complex emotions which run the gamet, I never assume otherwise. I am less skeptical of a person who doesn't add those areas of character to their journal, I mean what are they hiding?? I think it is different in a "public" journal though, you are wide open to all kinds of looney toons who THINK they know you. Your journal has a little of information and insight into the man you are. I likes me some Scotto!!!!

I use my LJ as I would a journal, thoughts and all.

Writing in this journal is mostly cathartic for me. I tend to try to keep it toned down but most times I'm not in the mood to give half a shit what anyone thinks that reads it. I figure public or not its a journal. If someone has a problem with what they find (whether they know me or not) that's their own problem not mine.

I really like getting feedback because it feels sometimes like I'm in a bubble. The bubble is why I do post personal things that probably would make an employer or other sensitive type situational acquaintance think twice about the wisdom of knowing me. But you know, if employers wish to view their employees with rose colored glasses they are blinding themselves to the humanity of others. Maybe we'd have a few less people going postal if they were allowed to be less of a drone.

Your journal sometimes screams out that you've posted what you think people want to see. Not a bad thing, don't misunderstand me. When people make an effort to please others it makes things better for all. I totally understand that posting "sensitive" things isn't always possible. Employment is important and jeapordizing that so that you can rant about your girlfriend's nose picking habit is quite moot.

I would be the last person on Earth to think less of you if you posted exactly how you felt... even if it had typos! *scream* :)

Heh, you're right, I do like the sharing things aspect quite a lot. Feedback *is* quite nice, and I do really enjoy the feedback a goofy link or oddball statement can bring.

I fear no Russian lj chain-letter curse!

I was raised watching Dr. shrinker and whacked out space nuts!

I said lunch, not launch!

Lost Saucer with Ruth Buzzi and Jim Neighbors as androids on adventures with a kid and their babysitter.

What could a curse do to me that's worse than that?
