Went out with Randy, Leila, Vicki, Sara and Michelle last night to celebrate Vicki's last day today. It's going to be a bit of a drag there with her gone, but we'll still very likely go out to lunch periodically.

So there's this show-and-tell history thing going on in the sixth grade, and the teacher decides to bring in this elderly guy from the local VA nursing home, who was an authentic World War I flying ace. He's having a great time telling the kids about his wartime experiences, and the kids are having a fine time hearing them. One of the boys asks if the old guy ever came near getting killed.

And the old guy says: "You betcha!"

"I was flying through the clouds at 1,000 feet, when all of a sudden I was surrounded by Fokkers."

And when he says "Fokkers," some of the kids start to smirk.

"There was Fokkers to the left of me."

The kids are smiling.

"There was Fokkers to the right of me."

The kids are giggling.

"There was Fokkers ahead of me."

The children are stifling full-on laughter now.

"There was Fokkers behind me."

And now the kids are laughing out loud, to hear an adult say"Fokker," and the teacher, realizing she's about to lose control of the class, steps in.

"Now, class," she says. "A 'Fokker' was a type of German airplane."

And the old geezer responds:

"Yeh, dat's true, but dese fokkers were flying Messerschmidts."
