I heard the word "cut" as "turned" yesterday. As in "I had the phone cut back on, since my dad lent me $20." Cut on? Is that legit, or does that sound weird... when I hear the "He had his arm cut off in a car accident." I don't think "Well, I hope he gets to a doctor fast, and is able to cut it back on!"

In regards to writing: "Like you I feel that the short story is a more perfect form than the novel. I tend to be very descriptive and end up running long for short stories. I'm told that I have an immersive richly styled prose, unfortunately I think I'm more style than substance but hey it works for a lot of folks. You on the other hand are more substantive, I find your observances intriguing and would certainly fork over the bucks to read them."
