Aug. 24th, 2002 12:54 pmNever did hook up with my brother last night... I hope that the movie is still on with him for this evening...(I'm going, regardless).
I sat down last night, and futzed a bit, waiting for him... ( feral idea developed during that time )
Polished off the Egyptian Law book... racy, but there were a lot of tasty tidbits of information that got absorbed quite nicely. I also chewed on The Wreck of the Medusa : the Tragic Story of The Death Raft, by Alexander McKee. This one's got it all: incompetence, cowardice, a wide selection of varieties of human evil, a stinging indictment of the French government (of 1816), many, many unfamiliar shipping terms to add a dash of exoticism and mystery to the otherwise sordid proceedings, and *cannibalism*. Highly recommended, if you like that sort of thing. 150 men and women reduced to 15.
( A painting based on the wreck...cut to spare friend's pages )
The Global Consciousness Project records thousands of random electronic "coin flips" on computers worldwide to see if the results change when the world undergoes upheaval. We may be able to predict disaster...or our collective emotions may be the cause of them. If this primer is too simple, the GCP has enough information to make your eyes bleed.
A moment of Zen -

A moment of Zen -
In the awakened eye
Mountains and rivers
Completely disappear.
The eye of delusion
Looks out upon
Deep fog and clouds
Alone on my zazen mat
I forget the days
As they pass
The wisteria has grown
Thick over the eaves
Of my hut.
