Stressful week at the ranch so far, but nothing insurmountable. The crazy-chicken mindset is highly contagious, until you recognize what it is, and then stomp it flat.

I've got mixed feelings about visiting bro on Saturday, but I am please to say that he sounds a lot clearer and solidly thinking. not only is he without xanax or booze, but he is also cigarette free, soda free, and sodium free, considering the food.

Other benefits of being in jail... he gets a TB test, AIDS test, and his tooth looked at. He told me that he read through a 200 page book yesterday, and he's reading whatever comes by on the library cart. I wonder if jail is the best thing that could've happened to him. apparently I can't bring him clothes, but he can buy a sweatshirt, socks and such through the commissary.

Lucky, healthy thoughts for [livejournal.com profile] sedefendendo.

Gutenberg audio books
Michael Ellerbeck has started a project to read all of the Gutenberg Project texts aloud and release them as audio books under the terms of a Creative Commons license.

There's a new Teen Girl Squad "What's her face" is my favorite.

Strongbad 99, too.

I made "chicken parm" with tofu for dinner the other night. it turned out pretty good! I used the following recipe... can't take credit for it, it was given to me by a veggie mailing list.

Tofu Chicken Parm

Ingredients:
  • lb tofu

  • half loaf bread

  • olive oil

  • garlic

  • bazil

  • vegi chicken broth

  • margaram

  • egg replacer

  • tomato sauce (marinara)

  • sesame seeds

  • vegan cheese (optional)
Directions:

Marinate tofu in vegi chicken broth and garlic basil mix overnight. Fry tofu till brown adding desired spices to tofu. Dip fried tofu in egg replacer then in crumbled bread, seasoning, sesame seed mix. Bake at 350 till bread is crumbly. Add tomato sauce. Heat till hot. Add vegan cheese as desired.

Serves: 4
Preparation time: 45 minSite Meter

A fun project! I'd love to see responses to it in the comments.

Teela and He-Man see Skeletor exposing the Sorceress's nipple. He-Man proudly mentions that he did the piercing and supplied the nipple shield, but regrets there wasn't time for him to do the other breast. "Pro Bowl/Super Bowl, I thought they were the same thing," said He-Man. "At least I got one done in time for my big advertising campaign. Skeletor got my horse a part in a Budweiser commercial, too."

wow, the sorceress has really changed since her cartoon days.

did He-Man ride a horse?? Poor Battle-cat must have been busy doing that gladiator movie with Russell Crowe.

I'm not sure about the horse. It was many years ago, and I was at an age when Saturday morning meant lawn mowing more than cartoons. Now that I think about it, I seem to have mixed Thundarr and Ookla (something like that) and their horse-like mounts in with the He-Man gang.

I like how you've put a positive spin on your bro's circs. It really sounds like a good thing, for now.

I had a serious CRAVING for eggplant parmesan a couple of weeks ago--I couldn't REST until I had some. Oh, it was so good when I got it. Do you use vegan cheese? How is it?

I LOVE the audio books thing. So cool.

Ah, yah.. I thought it was funny that Ookla rode a weirdo-sock puppety-horse dino thing, while the more human-looking folks got real horses.. They matched, anyhow. :)

Thanks... got to try and find the bright side where I can. :)

eggplant parm is like that... I got bitten by the bug about 2 weks ago, myself.

vegan cheese is ok, if you don't use the real thing... the provolone and mozzarella is pretty good, but the cheddar isn't my fave.

I hope they keep running with audio, too! hooray for public domain!

Good attitude.

Talking about it has me wanting it again. I've never made it at home...maybe I'll try this weekend.

I just love cheese and wondered how that stacks up to the real thing. So, you usually do regular, then?

I know! I might send 'em a dollar or two.

I'm terribly lazy when it comes to eggplant parm. maybe it's me, or maybe it's the eggplant, but I just like having it made for me by someone else. Mine turns out not quite as good as some of the really great parms I've had. Maybe it's time to try again, though... be a lovely Saturday night dindin.

I ususally use rennet-free cheese, and that's pretty good stuff. if you're a connouseur, you might not be crazy about it... I'd advise having a cheese fest, and trying a little bit of everything!

Yum. now I'm really hungry.

I know, I could go on and on about food (unfortunately) but all it does is make me crave things : )

Cheese and Wine Fest!!! A grand idea!

When I get back I'm going to search for a recipe.

man... if I could market a vending machine with juice-boxes full of wine or beer, and little blocks of cheese... and maybe fresh cold grapes?

I'd be a happy camper!

looks like my pretzels will have to do.

Date: 2004-03-04 08:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sida-al-hurra.livejournal.com
Yes! Why do the machines have to have the same ole ucky stuff all the time? I could really go for some red wine, farmer cheese and french bread right about now. Some salty olives and hummus with pita, too. THAT'S the stuff I want in the vending macine. Only they'd have to make it fresh, daily.

I like pretzels...and beer ; )

Newt *loves* olive juice. he'll sniff the spoon that I use to retrieve them and lick it clean if I let him... the salt I suspect.

he's drawn to curry-scents too.
