Called the landlord up, and he knew nothing about this morning... and is also angry at the realtor. I no longer hold the landlord responsible for any of this nonsense.

Ok, here's the deal. I know of 2 possible other places to go, one's a condo that I could buy... the other is a similarly priced one-bedroom apartment, that's close enough to work that I could walk there. (a longish walk, mind you... but doable)

I could stand to own some property, if it looks good, though....not a bad investment.

Under tenant's rights in Florida, I can call the police next time a realtor goes into my apartment without my permission... and I've now posted notice on my door that nobody is allowed entry without first having written permission from me beofore entering, lest they be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, with a copy of statute 823 posted and highlighted for their reference. Also in the note is direction to telephone me at least 12 hours before sending an inspector over, or no audiance will be permitted under any circumstances. I tried to be nice, but they took advantage. Similar postings are on 3 of the four other residences in the building.

It's illegal to change the locks without the landlord's permission, but posting no trespassing does make it additionally illegal to step inside unless they have an appointment, or it's an emergency, like a gas leak or fire.

well that stinks.. i'd be upset, too. i'm a complete freak about a stranger's presence spooking the cats, and the cats could run out of an unwatched door. hope they don't do
it to you again. ...or, teach Newt to go commando on unwelcome strangers.

I once rented a house that was being shown for sale for a few months, and the realtors treat you really weirdly. Kind of like you don't exist, except they also expect you to do all this work to make the place look like a model home all the time. And they do things like call you on Friday and say, "I think I'll have an open house this Sunday. Can you please be gone all day?"

They *will not* enter my house without my being there.

If they get snippy, they can visit with me in my boxers and munching cocoa-puffs, weilding a baseball bat.

oh, it'll be ugly, if they do. But, I've posted fair warning... I'm hoping that realise that I have no problem bringing the law down on 'em.

Good for you! I hope that some of the other tenants follow your lead. Because I can be very devious this way, since you have webcams, have you thought about also posting that if someone would enter your apt. anyway, that they'll be on camera? And then keep a webcam pointed at the door at all times when you aren't home.

Might be one extra deterrent in case the realtor decides to disregard your warnings. ;)

yup! and there's no law that says I can't film and record audio on my premises, especially with written warning in advance. :)

That is a really funny mental picture!

Having property is one of the best investments you can make. The savings on taxes can be huge. Also you can get your money back when you sell it, maybe even make a long term profit.

yup.... I've been thinking of getting a property, even if it's just to rent out or resell.
