Now, you can be a Modern Major-General, too.

I love the movie joe vs the volcano. great soundtrack, too

If the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz had a Pa, I suspect he'd look a lot like Boilerplate, mechanical man extraordinaire of the Victorian Era.

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
Old Mother Nature's recipes
That brings the bare necessities of life

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam
I couldn't be fonder of my big home
The bees are buzzin' in the tree
To make some honey just for me
When you look under the rocks and plants
And take a glance at the fancy ants
Then maybe try a few

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

Look for the bare necessities
The simple bare necessities
Forget about your worries and your strife
I mean the bare necessities
That's why a bear can rest at ease
With just the bare necessities of life

Now when you pick a pawpaw
Or a prickly pear
And you prick a raw paw
Next time beware
Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw
When you pick a pear
Try to use the claw
But you don't need to use the claw
When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw
Have I given you a clue ?

The bare necessities of life will come to you
They'll come to you!

So just try and relax, yeah cool it
Fall apart in my backyard
'Cause let me tell you something little britches
If you act like that bee acts, uh uh
You're working too hard

And don't spend your time lookin' around
For something you want that can't be found
When you find out you can live without it
And go along not thinkin' about it
I'll tell you something true

The bare necessities of life will come to you

feel free to add me.... the rev is more of a nickname than a vocation, in my case, though. :)

Whoa Joe!

Cool! I thought I was the only person who loved "Joe vs. The Volcano." Something about it is so simple and yet so charmingly surreal that it sucks me in every time. Meg Ryan when she was still cute...Tom Hanks fresh off of "Bosom Buddies" (before he got the Hollywood-superstar-big-fat-head syndrome)...and that enormous moon rising ("Dear God, whose name I do not know, thank you for my life..."). Love it! (Okay, the Waponi/orange drink stuff was kinda lame, I'll grant the movie's many detractors that.)

I remember seeing it for the first time in a mostly-empty theater...and when the steamer trunks came whooooshing up out of the ocean, I cheered. *blush*

Well, I didn't even mind the Waponi thing, too much. :)

that soundtrack link is a hoot... I'd like to get an actual soudtrack, but one never *really* surfaced*.

I *still* use "I have no response for that" as an answer to some people.

Scottobear, you come up with the most amazing links consistently. You're amazing! And how cna I argue with one who goes on and has a song from The Jungle Book (I actually have that soundtrack on CD and it was the first Disney movie I personally owned).

As for Joe vs. the Volcano - never been a big fan of that movie. I remember watching it in a theater with the gf of that time and noty being terribly impressed. I was a bit distracted though. Maybe I need to give it another whirl.

Baloo is a hero of mine... reminds me to lighten up, and to just groove, baby.

Thank you for your kind words. :)

While kind, they are true. I'm a stickler on that issue. Don't say crap that isn't based in fact. You're amazing. Glad I stumbled across your journal, you frequently bring a smile to me at some point in my day. :)
