9290 - Thursday

I think tonight is Thai night or is that tomorrow? Or did we decide to go with zucchini? Ah well, it'll be a winner of a night, no matter what.

Had tasty leftover thai soup for lunch... maybe leftover pizza from last night for dinner? I guess I'll know once I get home... I imagine my ride'll be here soon! [edit: had a huge salad for dinner, and rounded it out with the remainder of the Thai soup. Pizza in box for tomorrow!]

Serious cough this morning - pollen? Faded as we left North Beach. [edit: didn't return when I got back home - woodsmoke, perhaps?]

Watched House and Hell's Kitchen - we're about 3 episodes from the end on each. I can't get over how abusive Ramsey is on that show - I've seen him far nicer to other folks, so I'm guessing it's mostly an act. House wasn't up to usual snuff... (the sopa opera star one) I guess ever season has to have the weak episode here and again.

It seems as though LifeLock isn't as secure as Todd Davis makes it out. According to a LifeLock spokesman, his identity has been stolen. For two years, Davis has been daring hackers to steal his ID. Looks like he got what he wanted. CNN reports: 'Now, LifeLock customers in Maryland, New Jersey and West Virginia are suing Davis, claiming his service didn't work as promised and he knew it wouldn't, because the service had failed even him.'

Whenever I think of James Garner, I think of three things. (usually in this order)

1. Rockford Files
2. Maverick
3. A Chevy Tahoe Commercial he did a voiceover for:

"Nobody Knows It But Me" written by Patrick O'Leary

The words of the poem are as follows:
There's a place that I travel
When I want to roam
And nobody knows it but me.

The roads don't go there
And the signs stay home
And nobody knows it but me.

It's far far away
And way way afar
It's over the moon and the sea
And whenever you're going
that's wherever you are
And nobody knows it but me.
I love that poem, but if pressed, prefer the Rockford files.

Discovered a few of the likely many benefits of the SQL UNION command. I'm surprised I've never used it until this week. I am also surprised that it defaults to DISTINCT, rather than ALL that seems counter-intuitive, but I'll take it.

So, Mortgage is due again, eh? The yahoo check cleared in a timely way.

The Topologist's child was quite hyper

The mess on the inside
Was thus on the outside
And it was easy for someone to wipe her.

Note to self – set up newtcam2 in the loft on the tower.

We decided to settle with the Condo board re: the assessment. They filed a lien and a foreclosure the same day.. Thought you’re supposed to wait a good span between the two. We’ll see how it goes.

One of the gigs I interviewed for mentioned to me that they read my journal, and have sniffed around my website a bit. (More than one person there has commented that the kitties are cute)

I’ve got to clean up the downstairs office a bit – maybe reposition the monitor, definitely clear assorted paperwork and detritus buildup.

Backward-smearing time domain transients – describes the “pre-echo” on older videotape

Body is extremely weary and allergies are acting up something fierce. I'm a grumpy, tired bear today.

Tonight, BHK and I are going to play some super munchkin, if the timing works out. We still haven’t seen the finale of either Dresden files or Gilmore girls.

I’m hoping for more fireflies tonight. And Orange / Pineapple shaved ice. [edit - no dice on the ice, and I was too sleepy/grumpy to play well or tv with bhk]

Between the fireflies and mosquitoes, I’m rather surprised that I haven’t seen more fat frogs or birds out and about. Chickadees and Blue jays seem to be the most stand-out when I do see ‘em. More leafy coverage now, so I imagine that’s cutting my visible cues, too.

Vending machine guy took out all the expired candy (twix, mostly) and left it atop for anyone who wants some to have. Nobody else wanted 'em, so, stale twix ahoy!

Words recently used that I doubted I’d ever put in conversation – onus, predilection, supercilious

Saw Adam and Kendall necking in front of his Grandpa's house. BHK honked, and they were unapologetic!

Poll question - What’s more important? Freedom or Equality?

Favor freedom, and consequently inclined to be somewhat sanguine about inequalities of outcomes or concerned with equality, primarily as equality of opportunity, not of outcome.

According to UK tabloid The Sun, hit BBC sci-fi program Doctor Who will reportedly end next year after its fourth season. Producer Russell T. Davies has decided to bring the hit sci-fi show to a close — to 'go out at the top' — so he can concentrate on other projects, according to the article. Davies and other senior staff are feeling the strain of the heavy workload imposed by the show, nine months a year of 16-hour days, and plan to resign en-masse in 2008. Davies, a long-time fan of Doctor Who, relaunched the series in 2005, 16 years after the original series was axed."

Pretty slow going today - applied for work at a few places. The biggest excitement was loss of electrical power from 6:30ish to about 7am. Got a lot accomplished, and BHK had some solid work at the local law office today. I spent most of my time at home taking care of the usual tech / job app issues... and playing with the kitties.

Tina came over to have dinner and watch American idol with us - not a bad show, but it's more of a social event than actually getting into the TV. I have now seen three episodes of a non-COPS reality show.

In Boot Hill there are over 400 graves. It takes
the space of 7 acres. There is an elaborate gate
but the path keeps to no main route for it tangles
like branches of a tree among the gravestones.

300 of the dead in Boot Hill died violently
200 by guns, over 50 by knives
some were pushed under trains - a popular
and overlooked form of murder in the west.
Some from brain hemorrhages resulting from bar fights
at least 10 killed in barbed wire.

In Boot Hill there are only two graves that belong to women
and they are the only known suicides in that graveyard

A little poetry I've been composing for a week now:

I'm a doodiehead. I wet the bed. I love baboons so my butt is red.
That was in my lj client this morning. Hmmm... Was it Newt, or Bhk? Neither are owning up to it.

Dindin at the momsters went pretty well, but at about 8:30, I just totally ran out of energy and we bid the folks adieu. Hit the sack after doing some last minute chores... I hardly remember 'em, as I was a zombie.

I want to write something else, but I'm drawing a little bit of a blank. I'm having a wonderful home life lately, and look forward to it continuing for many a moon to come, even if I suffer from a little lj vandalism from cohabitants from time to time. I still have to post some more doodles and piccies. Walkabout or just more outdoor time this weekend!

Moment of Halloween Poetry - (compliments of Audium) mp3

The Haunted House by Vic Crume

Not a window was broken
And the paint wasn't peeling
Not a porch step sagged yet there was a feeling
That beyond the door and into the hall
This was the house of no one at all
No one who breathed nor laughed nor ate
Nor said I love nor said I hate
Yet something walked along the stairs
Something that was and wasn't there
And that is why the weeds on the path grow high
And even the moon races fearfully by
For something walks along the stairs
Something that is and isn't there

Here's the original movie trailer for the movie, "Infra-Man." It's six million light years beyond believability!

(found while searching youtube for "MAN OF IRON" for Danny... got this martial Arts flick instead: Original Theatrical Trailer for Chang Cheh's 1972 follow-up to The Boxer From Shantung. This classic kung-fu gangster film stars Chen Kuan-Tai as a gambler who runs afoul with the son of a Shanghai crime boss and his mob (including Yang Sze alias "Bolo"), and is caught in the crossfire between warring gangs while courting his moll (Ching Li) and rising to power on his own before the blood-soaked finale!
