GeotargetIt's illegal to annoy

A new federal law states that when you annoy someone on the Internet, you must disclose your identity. Here's the relevant language.

"Whoever...utilizes any device or software that can be used to originate telecommunications or other types of communications that are transmitted, in whole or in part, by the Internet... without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person...who receives the communications...shall be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than two years, or both."
Hmm... I wonder how enforceable this is, and how it'll change the face of the internet? Telephone use? Talk Radio?

The answer to my ESP poll was Wavy Lines. I suspect there may've been some circle after image bleed over due to the moon-talk and icon. Very interesting... most people knew that I'd go with wavy lines. Fully 40% of people answering got it right, as well as 33% getting the circle vibe. Spiffy that folks know me that well, give a one in five chance to get it right.

Let's try it again - I'm looking at an image, and focusing on it... which one is it?

The problem with LJ:

We all think we are so close, but really we know nothing about each other. So I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about.

Ask away. Then post this in your LJ and find out what people don't know about you.

Its taken me several minutes to think of a question for you, but one thing I don't think I know is your age.

Love the little sliders thing at the bottom there, quite tops! How do you make those things?

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm 36, Born February 2, 1969.

I got bored and fooled with a video clip... pasted my head and voice balloon on using GIMP software.

The problem with LJ:

[identity profile] peradouro.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 02:34 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I always avoid these types of questions on the internet. I don't feel "close" to people on here. I see similarities and have a lot of fun chatting about various issues. But I don't really see people online as close friends. Or even friends for that matter, aquaintances would be closer.

I mean for me it takes a bit more to be a friend than sharing the odd tidbit about my life. That's why the "something that should be obvious" part of this meme makes me grin. How could anything be obvious unless you've posted it? :) I think it'd be better worded if it said "Ask something about me that isn't obvious from the info I've shared" or "You read my LJ often, what would personal question would you ask?" Or even "Describe me to me in a 10 word list." I dunno, something along those lines.

Something I'd like to ask other people is what is the nature of their work outside home compared to work inside home. I do substitute teaching outside home and at home I make art (well I will be as soon as I get my materials again). It's interesting too to hear about people's at home work space. What's the relation of your bookshelf, desk, and reading spot? It's funny when people have a bonafide desk but do their work at the kitchen table. Why not get rid of the desk and set up another table with a filing cabinet or something?

Oops, I think I posted my daily ramble in your journal instead of mine lol. Ok ramble officially over.

You, as I see you on LJ, in 10 words

that is a mighty flattering list. thank you very much for your kind words!

I agree.. the meme could be phrased better. that question is a good one, too.

Outside home, I use my computer skills to help recover missing children, elderly (usually with alzheimer's) and the disabled.

My reading spots are all over the house. The porch when the weather is perfect, the couch when the sun is right, the potty when a guy's gotta go, and bed most every other time. I like to read sitting up, crosslegged.

Bookshelf is in the Living room, but I keep a cache of books near every spot, in the night table by the lamp, and on my palmtop.

My desk is really for paperwork and computerwork, I rarely if ever read there casually.

[identity profile] helenangel.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
That picture is awesome. =)

Okay, so what I want to know is your life story. =)

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

My life story is a simple one, I was born the son of a sharecropper, and evenually worked my way up to owning a large laundry franchise... oh wait, that's George Jefferson.

[identity profile] helenangel.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
-lol!-

I was following up on the "annoyance" legislation and here are some rebuttals (http://www.boingboing.net/2006/01/09/flame_someone_anonym.html) that might be interesting.

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-10 08:18 pm (UTC)(link)
very interesting indeed! thanks!

[identity profile] phillykat.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
you know i thought wavy lines, went to circle and back again.

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
that'll teach you to second guess!

[identity profile] blackhellkat.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Spiderman boxers----hmmm the fact that I know that annoys me---lemme go call the feds RIGHT NOW! ;D

Yeah what a bad piece of legislation---sooo vague.

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
mY NAME IS SCOTT VON BERG, AND i WAS WEARING SPIDERMAN BOXERS. YOU KNOW MY NAME, YOU CANT PROSECUTE!

what about all caps? that annoys me!

[identity profile] blackhellkat.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry for using ALL CAPS *evil grin*
And you can't prosecute because you don't know my name (I don't think)so you don't know where to send the FBI knocking BWHAHAHAHHAHAHHA oh wait I mean bwahahahahhahaha

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I've got your ISP address!

Mwahhahaha-neener.

That narrows it down to the tri-state area of Md/Va/DC!

Re: ISP's

[identity profile] blackhellkat.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Well my neighbor will be glad to know some hot FBI guys in suits are coming to visit----she's been a bit lonely since she stopped dating her boyfriend. *another evil grin*

You know I did just remember that I sent you a card so I'm screwed I suppose.

Also I don't get the all caps thing---I never have---I suppose you really have to associate it with screaming in your mind for it to annoy you. I regularly write notes in all caps so that I will notice them and when I'm printing I usually use all caps---but I'm not meaning to scream---odd.
So if I ever mistakenly all caps you---since I would never want to annoy you just take it as a sign that I'm saying "look at me look at me I'm flying pig!"

Re: ISP's

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:30 pm (UTC)(link)

No worries, I don't plan on pressing charges, we can settle out of court.

heck, hook a brother up with a single gal! :D

Wow.. quite a line up, flying pig!

Re: ISP's

[identity profile] blackhellkat.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Um sure you wanna date Norma?

A little about her---she's in her sixties, blonde (very), and she recently told me that shops should be closed on Sunday (the blue laws should be re-enacted) in order for people to go and worship "Our Lord" and read the scriptures.
(I of course suggested she stage a boycott and refuse to shop on Sunday.)

Although I have to admit at the moment I've given up matchmaking since my friend pointed out I couldn't even find myself a nice boy that I liked---I was shamed and have retired as matchmaker! :D

Re: ISP's

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-11 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
erm, never mind re: the hookup.

I think you're a prime catch, and I've got just about all my teeth, too!
