The Gizmo that takes white blod cells, and gives me back everything else. The apheresis process takes about 90 minutes. (2 hours if you count sign-in)

Good premiums today.. They bought my lunch, gave me an american Flag beach towel, a T-shirt and a free AMC movie pass.

Not a bad haul for a lazy-man's charity.

How much do you get for doing that? Just wondering ...

Oh you edited your post :)

No charge... pure charity. but I did get some nice loot as a result. :)

If you want to make money by donating plasma - I understand that you can get anywhere from $15 to $50 per donation, dependion on the area you go, and the agency you use.

Plasma, you can donate twice a month. I'd investigate any location pretty carefully, though... a lot of homeless / jobless folks will do it, so the wait at those places can be long, too... between 30 min and 4 hours, usually.

blood donation is super easy. lay on a couch, wait 2 hours, get some cookies.

no brainer. :)

Just looking at that makes me woozy---I can't believe I don't hork a lung every day when I have to stick myself for blood---although it may just be the "medical" atmosphere!

I'm a big needle scaredy-boy, too.. I prefer to look away when poked, too.

I've heard people here say they get $50 for doing it. I wonder if volunteers drop, when only premiums are involved?

How come blood donation receives no payment, but plasma does? I'm showing my medical ignorance here...I don't know what plasma does. ;)

Well, the place I go to, you get no money, no matter what. the preimums, like t-shirts, frequent flier miles and such are fun, but you never know what you'll get when you come in.

Other places will give money for whole blood or plasma... I'm not sure how the cost splits out, but I think you get a better bang for your buck with plasma, because you can give that every 2 weeks, rather than 8 with whole blood.

uses of plasma, over straight "whole blood replacement"

Wow that is cool technololgy! I've never given blood or anything, do you get a screening or anything? Is there a website I can look at to see how I might volunteer for this?

[identity profile] scottobear.livejournal.com 2006-01-24 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
you do get a screening before donating.. they make sure you have high enough iron, no hepatitis, etc.

not sure where in KY you are, but these guys might know a local location!
