codec is a type of media viewer.... some hdtv and other formats use a more recend type of "decoder"

media player classic should have all the needed codecs to view whatever you like -

download it here.. it's free, and contains no spyware.

thanks, i solved the problem after much panicing. i upgraded my windows player which did no good at all. it can't accept the codec for some reason, so i upgraded my divx player and voila!
